What's this 58 356 case worth?

I picked this up a few years back as a complete engine in pieces. I've sold off some of the high dollar parts that were an easy sale. Now I want to get rid of the crankcase. I don't know enough about these old engines to even know if it's been repaired properly or could be repaired properly. But it's all 3 pieces and they are matched.

I've also got 2 sets of P&Cs that I'll dig out and post later. One is original to the engine and the other is supposed to be something more special/performance oriented.

They are often weld repaired successfully by the likes of people at Ollie's Engineering. Its worth very little having been repaired and in questionable condition although it is an S engine. Of course its worth a heck of a lot more if you find the person who has the matching chassis. The 356 Registry would be the place to list it but then you have to be a paying member.

I've looked for the original car twice. It was in Parker, CO 20 years ago when a 912 engine went into it. I'd give it to the owner of the car if they popped up. But I won't pay to join the registry. I won't pay to join any forum. That's BS imo.

Yep. That is why I'm no longer a member there. The magazine is alright but all I ever wanted to do is use the forum.

I do a yearly engine inventory and list it in the 356 Registry classifieds. It takes awhile to do the inventory. I price the cases at $1000 each, I sell about 2-3 a year. Hope this helps you price yours.

Cool. I just came in from the barn. Found a bunch more stuff. Both sets of P&Cs. Generator. A bunch of tin include a few fan housings. Rockers. Oil return tubes. Pulley. Etc. it's starting to look like I may have only sold the carbs, heads and crank. Unsure of rods for now. Pics in a day or two. Cayman needs a new heart.
