Worth saving these two?

Have an opportunity to pick up a

1.) 1978 911 steel wide body roller

-clean title
-has rust (mainly window frame holes as well as foot pedal area)
-has no motor or trans
-has full interior

2.) 1986 911 Cab slantnose

-salvage title
-solid steel body
-no rust
-no interior
-no engine or trans
-rolling shell basically it

Realistically there is a couple things I could do. Have some space this winter and use the salvage shell to fix some rusty areas of the '78. Then source a motor and try to get it back on the road.

Or just buy the car to save them from rotting to the ground and maybe resale in the future.

I'm just curious what you guys think I should spend on this package deal? I need to drive about 3 hours to pick them both up and still currently not sure what the best way to do it will be.

Seller was asking 8k cash for both.. little up there but what would you pay for them or consider a "good" deal for both of these shells?

Let me know you thoughts. Should I jump on these?

Pics coming in a few mins. Thanks!

From the dark, dank silhouette of the interior, I'd say it's worth purchasing both just for the door handle.

I would offer him half just based on the fact that the black car has turbo twist wheels...

For $8K I wouldn't. For $4k I would. You'd still be doing him a favor.

If he pays you $8k to get rid of that junk it's a decent deal

I maybe would buy the black one for $2k. At least you may get that money back from the seats and tail...is that rear steel seat back/parcel shelf on that cab like half gone? It looks insane...

Hey guys ya no way I'd ever do 8k for the cars. I got him around 4k for them at the moment. There is a local car that is rust free but missing a front end and maybe this is the perfect chance to kinda use 3 cars to make one nice one.

As for the turbo twist wheels I was pretty upset cuz I thought he had a different set when he mentioned 'nice wide wheels'

Must be nice to live where emissions don't matter. I'd go $5k if I already had an engine and gearbox.

Alright so I'm assuming anything under 4k is worth getting just to even sell if I find them being too much of a project.

I just realized also there is a local rust free shell that had its QP cut very high so maybe even using these two cars to make that one complete is the best move. We shall see.

I'd go for them for 4k. At least the parts won't rust away and be gone for forever.

What would you do with the slant Cab?
That car almost looks like it was on fire.

Cars arent worth what they were even a year or two ago, and I know from my 356 project that visible rust (like on the back window of that black one) is just the tip of the iceberg.

First thing I stop looking at when other cars are plentiful is rust buckets.

Idk, just resell or just use the front end on another rust free local car I might pick up.

I agree. I guess getting these cars just because its a decent deal and I am the same way. I'd rather spend a little more or get a car that is damaged rather than tackle fighting rust or rot.
