Value of 2005 Porsche 911 CS (997) with possible blown engine

Hello everyone, I have a decent 2005 997.1 Porsche 911 CS with a possible blown engine. I'm curious what the value of this car might be as a parts car or for someone that has a matching engine to put into it.

Miles: 48xxx
6 speed manual
Arctic Silver/Black full leather
BOSE sound system
Heated Seats
Bilstein Damptronic Coilovers - car lowered
2 sets of wheels with recent-new tires
---OEM lobster claws with Continental DWS
---Knock-off Turbos with Pirelli PZeros
Roof rack
Scuffed bumpers
Everything works as intended with cold A/C

These rollers are very hard to sell. You say possible blown engine? The IMS let go?

I'd say $9K and not a penny more - and maybe a lot less. They are a very hard sell when the IMS and/or engine is gone.

Bummer, I was thinking that as well.

I had it bore scoped and there is severe scoring in Cylinder 6. Also has leak at RMS and another one in front (?). Lots of soot coming out of left most tail pipe. No metal in the oil about 500 miles ago but will find out in morning after filter is cut open.

Probably IMS starting to go (VIN is in range of IMS class action settlement) but I will get a 2nd opinion from a dealer just to make sure.

Worth rebuilding and keeping.

Or selling with a documented rebuild.

You will loose less money than letting go broken for low thousands.

These engines take a tremendous amount of money to set straight - and there aren't a lot of people that have the tools, time, and competence to do it. You could go with a used motor, but where does that leave you with these cars? Back to where you were. Unless you are very serious, and have tens of thousands to fork out to make it right, make it someone else's problem.

Sacrilege, I know, but perhaps it's an LS swap candidate?

Any experience with a rebuilt M97S engine from Vertex Auto in Miami? They strip it down to bare components and rebuild it with upgraded Main & Rod Bearings, use the ETERNAL IMS FIX by EPS, use a better RMS, JE pistons, Darton cylinder sleeves and rebuild it with all OEM components.

What would a normal independent shop charge to replace an engine?

Not when it comes to 99 & newer Porsches, IMO, the best option, LS3 baby, Turbo Horsepower without the turbo $$$ or weight..

No personal experience, but check out Flat 6 before making any decisions such as above:

Manual 6 speed.

Also, good news, there was no metal in the oil or filter. The IMS may be OK. I saw the bore scope, many up and down lines, almost continuously, and oil on the top of the cylinder head. Looks like the rings are failing.

I'm getting an estimate to replace the bottom block and rebuild from there.

Why didnt they use the Metzger without turbo?

Super nice looking 997 though - a garden sculpture - modern art!? 5k and I would do it - Mad Matt could get the tranny.

Would you say something as obnoxious as this in your daily life. A Congolese engineer could be just as gifted or lacking in talent as a German one, or a Danish one for that matter.

There you are living comfortably in your Scandinavian welfare state espousing narrow minded views, safe behind your keyboard. Pathetic.

Re build or replace. It sounds like a well sorted car, and as a roller I think you would be lucky to get high teens.

So engineers from Congo designed a lot of engines for cars? I am amazed how thin skin so many of you guys have.

And as for the welfare state I can tell you that it is quickly falling apart because of broad minded people like yourself.

It still is a nice looking 997 - Congo engine or not. I would love to own it. Best of luck to the OP.

Martinator apologies. Good luck with the car, i think it's worth the save. I dont want to derail this thread like so many others here, but i believe that its important to address this and I'll make it my last word.

CDK. It has nothing to do with being 'thin skinned', and everything to do with respect. It's easy to pick on people less privileged than yourself, while you're here spouting on a BBS about Porsches.
I'm proud and privileged to call these Americans who i have shared many Porsche related adventures with my friends. We all originate from different corners of the globe and have all worked hard for the opportunity to own a 911.

If you have something else to say about people from the Congo region why not respect Martinator's original question and simply PM me. Or alternately I will be in Copenhagen for work soon, and always happy to discuss in person. (I'm the guy in the highlighter color watch cap.)

Same here - I wonder if this primadonna stuff is a Porsche owners' deal or if it afflicts other-make, car guys, too?

Nonsense - Christian's "Congo" comment was obviously a simple, harmless joke.
