Another YGTBFKM rant
Shopping for an air cooled 911 is worse than being charged $25 for 12oz of Coors Light at a ballgame. What in the hell happened over the past few years that made the prices go bananas?

It’s hard to call it a bubble when rebuild and maintenance costs justify it. You can’t rebuild a 3.2 for under $10k anymore. It’s now closer to $20k than $10k. $10k in paint and body restoration happens in a blink, without extensive rust repair. The list goes on. And millennials have hit their earning curve and have a thing for cars from their youth. And they can now afford them. Many of these buys are someone’s first AC car, even if they’ve already had 2-3 water pumpers. Sub $10k 986 Boxster are a gateway drug. |

Boxster=gateway drug. Nailed it! |

Bat

I love BAT,.... and what an awesome business model. They close about 18 auctions a day. They probably auction more cars than Barrett-Jackson or MECUM, on an annual basis. If we guess the average commission at $2500-$5000, they are killing it! And seems like low overhead. Congrats to the BAT guys....wish I was one if them. |

And as can happen with any other popular product or service, I wouldn't be too surprised if before too long we see a genuine competitor on our computer screens. _ |
Plus the listing fee. Plus they push for a low reserve to try to make sure it sells.
It was an inspired move by what was originally a daily blog. |

Personally I think there are some good deals out there. Where are you looking? California always seems to be a more difficult market. |

Re. The OP’s lament, I was in the same boat in ‘15 when the 911 run up started. It all seemed overpriced so I said screw this and went over to Maranello to visit 3x8 land. These were startling to move up but we’re a little behind the air air cooled Stuttgart products. There was better value for money with the Italians. So I bought my second and third 308s at full retail and did fine on both.
I think it’s the same at present so look at 3x8s. Re. BaT, Mr. Monson had a good insight about Millennial’s social media vanity puffing the numbers. Just like the old codgers at Barrett Jackson overpaying for some gaudy restomod so they can get their face on TV. |
Millennial’s social media vanity? Every 3.2 I have ever seen is driven by a guy with white hair. Millennial kids drive Subarus and hot hatches.
|
Millennial here. Soaring rent and tuition means we do not have the cash to overbid for vanity.
But the vetting and information on each auction sure adds to buyers' confidence - which, again, wouldn't be us with the cash, but you old codgers ;) |

I think my brain housing unit is about to blow a seal (zero ref to the chimpanzee getting work done on his car...) over the haze that has enveloped market values. Anybody can ask whatever they want and somehow, some way, somebody shows up cash in fist. I must have missed that meeting.
Temp hiatus on an air-cooled sled. I'm going to buy a '69 Camaro SS 396 and solve this terrible itch I have for an appropriate sled to grab some Cars & Coffee (I'll also have to wait a few years and get more white on the dome for an air-cooled...it currently only resembles sheetrock dust LOL). |
Don’t wait too long, it might start falling out.
|
Have you followed Camaro prices?

Purchased a 77,000 mile 86 Carrera sunroof delete, sport seats and spoilers..... Car itself is strong w/ minor maintenance items in need of service (Windshield washer, Cruise control, Cigarette lighter), all important as I drive my car regardless of weather...... excellent value @ $34,000.
Of course weak A/C which I will not fix.......... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1511358675.jpg |
Dude, It's Guards Red. Put that thing on BaT and some millennial will give you $42k for it...

Problem with selling is replacement cost...... took me almost three years to buy what I thought was a good value. |

I saw that ad when it popped up and I hadn't yet zeroed in on how good a deal that was. My first thought was, "Holy ****, somebody put a decent car up for sale for a decent price." I wanted to buy the guy a beer.
The Camaro is for marketing purposes (I trademarked 'making america shine' for our deionized water systems...kinda bogus to be washing a Roundel badged sled or a Volt for that matter) as well as putting me on the frequent buyer program for rear slicks at Discount Tire. Hope I don't get banned for a bowtie showing up 'round here. My '05 E46 ZCP M3 SMG Interlagos Blue w/ 55k miles is always up for trade if anybody has an interesting sled to offer...Bueller?....Bueller?.... BTW- can anybody tell me why uploaded photos like to get rotated? |

On your PC the image in indexed correctly but when posted its not. So on your PC just rotate the image around and re-index it correctly then save the image again. That seems to help it remain correctly indexed when posted. Bow ties are patriotic (and loud ;) ), you'll get more thumbs up in the Camaro than the 911. Happy landings Captian. :) My wife and I race a couple Camaros. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1511445599.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1511445664.jpg |
