don't you hate it when...
you come across dishonesty here on pelican? i bought some refinished fuchs last year from a fellow pelican. he advertised them as "restored" and "refinished" blah blah blah. when i got it, all i did was open the box and they looked good to me.
so i bought them for a new build i'm working on and am finally getting the project on the ground (just finished suspension). when i test fit the wheels, i realized, while they were polished and repainted, two of the wheels were BENT! one has a flat spot on it and is going to cost me $150 to fix. the other also has a flat spot but it also looks to have a poor attempt to fix a bigger issue. the wheel "appears" to have been curbed pretty hard and the outer lip needed to be trued. instead the dip**** grinded the lip down making the rim wall thinner, almost half the lip thickness in the spot. then proceeded to polish the wheels to hide the grinded edge and then repainted the centers. at this point, it doesn't even look to hold air let alone be safe to drive with. i guess i could have spent more time inspecting the wheels when i got it but i assumed he was a stand up guy. oh well, lesson learned. sorry for the rant, just wanted to vent and hopefully put things into perspective... as this community grows along with the crazy demand, be aware there are scammers and jerks trying to take advantage of us.

The reason I tell folks to put new joints in their transaxles is a direct result of being sold at least one bad transaxle, being advertised as "off a 69K SC." I went through both, rebuilt, and "bang" from a Stop sign first time out, fortunately at low speed. Scared the milk out of me.
I remember a woman leaned out of her car and said " I love your car!" as it was sitting on the flatbed. Wasn't what I was thinking at the time, so you do have my sympathy.

I was in a similar situation.......
Quote:
G50911, Sometimes the buyer is partly to be blamed for not doing his/her share of work. A fellow PP member contacted me when I was looking for a set of Carrera 3.2 Factory shop manuals. He sent a picture of the Carrera 3.2 binders plus 3 extra Carrera 4 (free) for $350 shipped. Accepted the offer and sent payment. Package arrived and placed the new binders on the shelves. Two (2) months later, I discovered that there was a missing volume for the Carrera 3.2 FSM (I, II, III, IV, & V). Volume IV is missing. Contacted the seller and told him what I just discovered. The seller knew the volume IV was missing and kept it a secret from me. I would not consider buying it if I was aware of the missing binder. But there is nobody to be blame except me for not checking them when they arrived. I doubt now, if he would even refund the money. A good and decent seller would offer you a settlement if you later discovered the discrepancy about the sale. Lesson learned the hard way. Tony |

Friend of mine had very similar experience. Polished fuchs deep 6x15. 2 bent. Maybe same guy.
Think he sells a lot of wheels.

At $900 per wheel, somebody is a bandit. Probably not fixable.

OP, I’d do as LIRS6 suggests and make contact with your concerns. You might be surprised. If he’s a din* about it then you could let us know who it is with good conscience to help fellow members who may have future dealings. If people are not held reasonably accountable for their actions we all suffer a bit.
I bought a front fender and side markers from a reseller a couple years ago. Parts were ok but not up to the standard that I thought we had agreed to on the phone. He told me I could send them back or keep them - my choice. Considering freight costs and availability to other parts to replace these I decided to keep them and make them work. At least I had the choice.

I got hosed a couple times. I bought two, yes, two sets of Carrera tensioners that were supposedly new five years ago and one tensioner in one kit had the small pop off valve completely missing, and the other kit had one tensioner that had the pop off valve welded in. Not to mention I bought a complete set of Excellence magazines from a well-known person on here for $300 and one box of the five showed up - and I'm still waiting for a refund five years later. I wish I was more of a hardass.

I bought some parts on here. One of the good sellers was techweenie. He sold me some 9x16 Fuchs that were exactly as advertised. No hassles. But other sellers, some of the guys who do volume parts, sold me some absolute crap, at premium prices. And me being a dumb@ss, I didn't ask the right questions up front. So that's on me. BUT, it also means that I treat the other sellers in the marketplace like they are trying to steal my money.
If you sell parts in the Marketplace, it is worth your while to make sure the scammers are named and shamed. My bad experiences were years ago, so I'm not going to name names now, but at the time, I should have spoken up. |

I'm guilty of collecting parts for a project and not looking at them until it's time.
I've had issues with brand new parts being wrong and finding out a year later. It's my fault and I'll probably never learn.

Sometimes it’s miscommunication, others outright fraud. I feel it’s best to contact the seller privately and give him the opportunity to make it right. If he does so great, everybody wins. If he doesn’t then shame on you for not telling the collective group who it is.
I’ve been burned twice. Given the large number of parts I’ve bought here that’s not bad. In one case I got my money back. In the other, seller Mitch Kaye (Arizona) outright lied about the condition of the fender that I paid 975 dollars for. The more I dig into the fender the more problems it has. Mitch says in order for him to refund me he’ll have to inspect it for damage that I caused. Meaning he’s never going to refund me for finding out the crap he did to hide the damage. Out dishonest sellers after you give them the chance to make it right. Does it really matter if you found out right away, or sometime later? No, fraud is fraud.
