I do miss the old girl, looked worse than the one your looking at when I got her.

That rust will cost some coin to fix. Be prepared to find a lot more if you bring it home. Like said before- take $9k and bring it home. You would have no issue selling it for profit if it's not the

It's a struggle not to buy any SWB car under a blanket for 9-10k... It's a sickness I'm sure.

You almost have to buy it now- you made him clean all that crap off the old girl that's been on there for who knows how long.

The interior is complete but has needs. The front seats both have holes in the upholstery and the padding is essentially gone. All panels are intact. The carpet is there, but is 50 years old and in need of replacement. The headliner appears to be decent, but dirty and yellowed.

A few pics attached...

The engine compartment is reasonably clean actually. The insulation against the firewall and the sides of the engine compartment has given up and is falling apart. Outside of that, it doesn't look bad - not a tremendous number of leaks or any significant rust visible. Everything appears original and intact. The motor was rebuilt 35 years ago (documented with a receipt). The car has been sitting for 20 years without being started or ran. Fortunately, we were able to rock the car back and forth while it was in gear and could tell that the motor wasn't frozen.

I've attached a few pics. As you can see, it has a wonderful wooden prop stick.
Also, it had A/C added at one point in time. The compressor bracket assembly and the way that the unit is mounted is nicely done.

Don’t believe all the garbage you hear about 912’s, they are coming into their own.

Just sold my 67 a few months ago.

Agreed! Especially after having him move everything around just to dig the car out.

The car has finally seen the outside after 20 years. I decided to move forward with the purchase and it is now at home in my garage ready for its next adventure.

That interior looks pretty solid. Old AC is cool too. It is a complete solid 66. You don’t see those for less than $20k anymore.

Congrats. Original paint? You have your work cut out for you now. Worst case- you have a very nice work of art in your garage!

"Solid?" I think not. That rust is nasty. Of course it's worth the 10K, but you're looking at a complete tear down and the 'might as well' disease. I'm guessing 20k, at least.

I've owned two 912's. Love them. Really fun cars. A 3 gauge 4 speed 66 is just cooler than most, but A/C? How slow do you want to go?

Good luck my friend. I'm currently smack dab in the middle of a project just like this one. Whew boy, sometimes I wonder what I got myself into.

I’m not saying it doesn’t need rust repair. I agree it will easily be 5 figures. But it’s not gonna fold in half or have the seats drop into the street if you sit in them. Solid is a relative term. I have seen so much worse.

That would be a great starting point for a novice to cut his teeth on rust repair / bodywork. Go slow, take some welding classes and enjoy the opportunity to get to know the car from the inside out.

Or just save the headache and sell it to someone who wants to learn how to weld and do rust repair.

You could probably sell it on somewhere like BaT and double your money - then go shopping for something that has less rust in those critical areas like the torsion tube.

This rust repair is not for the novice.

Whatever you decide, don't do a hack repair job and cover it up with a nice coat of paint. We have enough of those already.

Nice car. Stock up on mig wire, gas and grinding and cutting consumables.

No, it's on its third repaint. The owner didn't like the original white, had it painted gold after a year of ownership, and decided to paint it red in the early 80s. The paint that's on it was completed in a workshop on an Air Force base and looks really bad - roller bad. The painter didn't even bother to spray a shot of primer between the gold and the red. Oh well, it has a certain charm to it with the crappy paint.

That is an option as well, I guess.

It will be done right. I don't have the skills to do it, so it will go to a local shop that knows what they're doing.
