Fred with all the rage these days for original patina, I would not repaint it if the paint is remotely still on the body - I'd leave it and sell it for 30% above market value.

356
Hi,thanks for the response.I went and gave him a check for $25 K today. There were two other lurkers who gave him a lowball offer. When the check clears I will pick it up.I am a retired factory trained mechanic or technician if that sounds better.30 years ago I had a restoration shop as well.I will get the motor running and do an evaluation on the mechanicals.I noticed today the motor has brand new weber carbs. It just had a fresh rebuild which I can determine once I clean the fuel system and crank it over. The oil is clear and fresh.Car was red and resprayed yellow.Original paint on dash & door jambs still.Battery box was jacked up on RF forward corner and not perfect.I will post some pics in the next few days.I was in a hurry and forgot the camera the first time I looked at it.Ciao Fred

Wow. That’s a real deal.
Fred, you’re a lucky man! For many of us, such a find wouldn’t be about flipping, but the opportunity to own a great car that we otherwise couldn’t afford. I hope you fall into that camp and have a great car that you can enjoy for years to come. If not, you just made a great investment and should see a good quick return on your money. Pics please ![]()

Man, that's just the kind of 356 I'd be looking for. Congratulations!
If you're looking for a quick sale, please keep me in mind. I'll be down there with cash in hand.

They are fun. They are like a VW Bug. The first Porsche I had was a '63 356 Super that I bought for $100 with no floors in 1987. Back then people had some sort of prejudice against the '61,'62, and '63 Supers. I never got that. |

They are fun, I just got into them a couple of years ago.
Seems the new 'order' going form the top to the bottom and not taking into account the variations like Speedsters and Carreras, etc. Pre A>A>SC>C>B. Prejudice against the B's is still there, new body, old brakes, trans, etc. All that being said a no rust, no wreck, original car like faapgar found trumps everything. Condition almost rules all with these old cars. Once again, nice find! |

Jealous. There’s a B coupe here I’ve been after for years. I offered $20k nearly 5 years ago. I keep hoping one day the old guy gets a little desperate for cash. I would keep it.

The 356 now is old and slow. They remind me so much of the three VW Ovals that I owned. They drove like them, they smelled like them. For me I wouldn't ever go back unless it was a deal 'I could not refuse.' I appreciate them. I don't care about it being a B, A, or C. They all drive the same to me. Next thing for me is a Beck Spyder. That's my next Porsche, or fake Porsche. I'm going to do it, probably in the next two years. That way I have the experience without worrying, and I can get back to whatever VW aircooled hankering I have (very little now, but it still exists). |
