911 Targa 1975 Anniversary

Looking for thoughts on value for a restored 1975 Silver Porsche 911 Targa.
Average to good condition. However the motor is locked up. (from sitting) Had it rebuilt about 8 years ago, and it just sat too long. probably needs to be removed and inspected/repaired. Not cheap. I don't have any pics today but can post some later. I'm considering eBay but I want to try and recoup some of my investment.
Thanks for your thoughts. Clean car, extremely nice FUCHS. Targa top needs rebuild however.

Added a few pics. Sorry, they uploaded a little strange.

Obtained car in about 1999. It was not running. Original engine and transmission still in car. - The motor is ready to be dropped.
Repaired pans and suspension pan and painted
Had engine rebuilt by Carolina speedwerks (defunct)- Car pretty much sat for quite a number of years. Tried to get it running about 3 years ago I think and it smoked badly. Gave Up.
Car sat some more. Tried to start again and No Joy. So at the moment trying to decide whether to sell or take it to the shop.
The car did not even have 1000 miles on the rebuild- Probably less than 500 (I can see if I can figure that out)

It did get normal 2/7 upgrades, tensioners, Head studs, etc. I don't know if it dropped a valve or what, but it's not running.

car is not perfect but not a dog (IMHO)-- so I'm trying to make a decision.
So I appreciate any advice, good or bad, on value.

Trying to figure out what I could get for it as it sits. It would come with original seats, but no sense in posting them. They look horrible.(seats you see would be included as well)

I bought a 75 anniversary coupe project last fall for $10k.
Engine and trans were out and no interior.
$10k was a deal for a mostly rust free 75 coupe.

I would imagine $10 - $20k depending on condition of the rest of the car.

Pics would help greatly. For instance, is the rare seat insert interior in place? If so what condition is it in?

There is more value in the fact it's an early G than the Anniversary aspect, unless you can find the right person from what I understand.

If it's clean it could bring more than $20K for sure.

Mine is a Silver Anniversary Targa. No one cared 6 years ago when mine went for $5K. I doubt it really brings a premium today either.

But it being a clean '75 will bring money. Maybe you can soak the cylinders and get it to turn? I've seen it done.

For example, that brown '74 Targa that we talked about here that was in the For Sale section went for close to $15K - and it had many issues. It was stored since '99 but was not locked. It sold in one hour on Craigslist.

I bet you get $25K or more if it's clean. Who knows? Shoot for the stars. There are very few out there. Mine was treated OK with a nice engine rebuild but it sat for 20 years in a California desert. It's not all original by any means, but it's pretty rust-free.

Just remember that there are not many around because they never got any respect until the last 5 years. So most were rusted, parted, and sent to the crusher.

I'm still a believer that they will be valuable. But I don't think that it being an Anniversary adds money right now.

...so is the Targa top not a hard Targa top? It may not be original.

How much did you pay 8 years ago? You probably bought it in the sweet spot of the market.

It is a very clean car. I will get some pictures this weekend and post them for more comment. AS far as the Targa top, except for the 914, I THOUGHT all targa tops were "fold-able" I do have a hard targa top for it but it's after-market. Could you send me any reference that I'm supposed to have a hard original targa top? I just pulled out the COA on the car and it says Targa folding top.

I've had the car for well over 15 years.

BTW car is rust free

Munky King. I have the original seats but they are toast. I have located the original fabric though and I HAD a plan to restore them. The rest of the interior looks pretty good. I have the original dash Plaque as well

1974 and part of 1975, the targa hard top was standard. If a car has AC it would have automatically been spec'd with a folding top. It was also option code M436 that could have been "added" as a no cost specification. If your COA says folding, then that's all you need to know.

The part that troubles me about this car is you call it "restored" but it doesn't run. And the targa top is bad. And the seats are toast. Either not a complete and thorough restoration or it was neglected after restoration. Was the car just painted? It that the basis of the restored claim? You will want to make the situation clear before listing it, and of course the forth coming photos will help us to understand.

I put it at $15-20k as a non-runner. If it is really rust free and paint is good, I would be interested in it.

Matt -All rust was removed, new pans, etc. Paint, new rear glass-- lots of stuff done. It was on the road for a while, then just parked. One would have to call it a project. I have awesome Porsche seats in it, but the original seats are BAD (Fronts)... I have the motor ready to drop, but I may move on and just focus on my 68 SWT. No hurry so I'll definitely get some pictures posted soon.

But you are correct-- it does not run, and is far from perfect.. but it IS totally rust free and "clean" Restored is a poor choice of words in the current state.

Additional Note- This car is not currently for sale- This is why put it in the Market Place forum as appropriate- Once I decide to sell, I will either post it here or elsewhere. I do really appreciate all the feedback .
I was an A/C car which is why it has the folding top I suppose.

Matt, When I post it for sell, it will be with 50 pictures and every detail I know

So major rust repair? That will put off a lot of buyers unless you’ve got good in progress photos. We’ve seen a few “after” threads of late from buyers who got their rust “repaired” cars back home, stripped them, and found a shyte show underneath paint and undercoat.

If Suspension pan and floor pans is major, then yes.. All rockers were good, and the rest of the car solid. But had some "pitting" in the pans and I'm not a "patch panel" guy.

Personal definitions will vary. As long as your details are accurate buyers will form their own opinion.

Nice looking sliver anniversay. We have the same interior- seats replaced after original plaid fabric got worn out.

That's why I had mine recovered with black covers. Just out of curiosity- how much are they charging for the recover?

$1800 per seat.. Mainly due to how rare the material is.
