Remember the M491 they had over at Edmunds? Had to laugh at their attempts to improve the car for resale. Went to France for around $25K circa 2012.

Bought from a customer of our shop that is moving back to U.K.
Pulled my ad off Craigslist. Got tired of all the brokers.
This is a great driver for an end user that doesn't want to pay
$75-100k for a garage queen.

The overnight sale of this very nice driver says it's well bought.

More than fair asking. I would not have let it go that cheap. Left $12K on the table.

It was just priced right, thus quick and easy sale. I really doubt a 200k mile M491 is worth 55k.

Couple thousand easy.

The TL is not my cup of tea but there's plenty others.

Maybe or maybe not. We'll never know. I could see more money here though. I think it was a good car. A great detailing and a very good writeup would have been thousands more easily.

I have a chance to buy an 86' m491 coupe. 115,000 miles. Paint is in bad shape, no rust, interior is rough and it has not run in 3 years. The seller agreed to get it running for me so I can do a leak down test. I am having a very hard time gauging what it is worth now. Anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah. Buy something that doesn’t need what sounds like a full restoration, you’ll end up spending less money on it and more time enjoying it.

Depends on what you mean by bad paint and rough interior. At 115K, it shouldn't be too bad for a driver.

The hood would need to be painted. Top of car is very faded from sitting in sun. Interior is driver quality. Big concern is all of the rubber on the car. I don't have any pictures at this time. Hopefully this weekend. Is it worth $35,000 if I plan to keep it and do the work over time?

Just spend a bit more now so you’re not ‘financing’ a restoration over time. Those that do it the way you’re considering, only do so because they either want to do all of the work themselves, or they have to buy like that because they don’t have enough up front money for the right car out of the gate.

I bet this one can be bought for 40k. It’s got slightly less miles than yours, and probably in far better condition.

You’ll be way upside down spending 35k on a 115k mile car that needs quite a bit of work to it. It will ALWAYS cost way more than you expect it to unless you’re doing all of the work yourself. Buy a car that PPI’s out, instead of one that comes with a five figure estimate of repairs from the PPI shop.
