At around 1,100 rpm (when warm) there is an noticeable knock. Oil pressure gauge is reading below 20 at idle when engine is warm.

Could this be caused by a low oil level?

With a dry sump...

Hmmm.... I've tracked a lot of listings on CL and ebay. Cars on pelican and rennlist are usually listed high and we don't know what they sold for. My pricing target obviously is optimistically low :)...

That rebuild estimate is very high. Rebuild costs haven't changed much. $5-7K from someone who knows what they are doing. It cost me $3K to have my 2.2T motor rebuilt, not whole lot to it.

Have been a LOYAL customer of pelicans for 15 years. Have almost always had issues finding parts. There isn't much competition for air cooled parts. However they are really behind other online parts...

Overly difficult to find the right parts from pelican for numerous cars...

It doesn't look like water can enter the air box easily, overfilling the tank with oil will just be burned up during combustion.
