I'm pretty sure it plugs into the upper port on the left side of the CIS airbox. The one on the right of the airbox is normally plugged I believe. See line 6 in the diagram posted by Harry.

You can remove it. The tough part will be undoing those big fuel lines in the back of distributor. After a few decades they are going to pretty stuck I'd wager. You can lower the engine a few inches...

No probs. You're right, it's either microwave or boiling water. Maybe a really long socket or similar to tap them into place over the pins. The surgical tubing idea is great!

I wrestled with this too. I used a jack to align and push up the sway bar in position so I could get the bolts started. I wish I was smart enough to have thought to load up the wheels with ramps.
