I just replaced the alternator in m '87 911, and have a few tips for the non-experts out there (like me). This assumes you've read the tech articles and other threads on how to actually do the job....

Very good choice. An automatic 911 is a sin of sorts, and I think a wide body without the actual turbo underneath is such a pose as to be as bad as an automatic. Atta boy -- have fun !

The leverage of the breaker bar is absolutely key (along with other tips above). Also, a sharp blow seems to be more effective on difficult bolts than constant pressure. You'll break it - good luck.
