944 has a new mate
Well the last time i was posting often on peilican was when i gave my 944 to my Dad. well as of today im a porsche owner again. I just picked up my first 911 its a 71' T Targa w/ gas burners. I sware i seen the 911 wink at the 944 when i pulled it in.
 body work is starting tommorow

I don't know 911s. Can someone explain what a "long-hood" is to me?
Nice Chris. Hopefully it will be easier to work on than your Euro automatic 944!

yeah its simpler then the 944. but costs a lot more for parts. we got the 944 running. we just changed out the entire harness. then went though and replaced all hoses, belts, a few sensors, and a few other things. it rides nice. we just need to change the leaky waterpump with the new one thats sitting in the garage.

"Long hood" is the original body style from the 60's up through 1973.
In 1974, due to new bumper regulations, the body was changed, and several inches were cut off the hood. These are known as short hoods, or impact bumper cars. The long hoods are prized for being the lightweights of the 911 family, offering the most "pure" driving experience. The 1974 and later cars started the trend towards heavier, more luxurious cars. |

Trust me. The silver car is all stock.
Well, at least the 3.2 in the back is stock. From an '87. Well, except for the exhaust. And 3.2's didn't come with a 7:31 ring and pinion, but who's keeping track? And the suspension is stock, too. Well, at least it still has torsion bars. Yup. It's all stock. |

I dig... but i couldnt do that to mine. it would be more attractive. but a # matching, one owner, well documented, gas burner'ed, targa like what i just accumulated diserves to be uncorupted. But i love your car.

I bought the silver car from an insurance auction, after it suffered an engine fire. Perfect candidate for an engine swap. Clean, rust-free body, and it was just a "T", not worth as much as an "S", or even an "E".
I didn't ruin an early 911 as much as I rescued it from the crusher. I'd keep your Targa stock, too. Great find. You're in for a lot of fun. |
