Question Blocks to raise seats

Does anyone know the part number for the aluminum blocks that raise the drivers seat?

Couldn't see one in PET. However, I'm always seeing them on Ebay and they'd have to be way cheaper buying second hand rather than new from Porsche.

There's a set going here for less than a tenner. I doubt if postage to the States would be much - they're not exactly heavy.

or you could go to the hardware store, and pick up some washers...

Interesting. I've put in aftermarket seats just to get a lower seating position. More headroom with a helmet on.

I definitely wouldn't pay Porsche prices for something that nonfunctional. I used some hard white plastic to raise my passenger seat to accomodate a stereo amplifier. Any hardware store would have them....or what Kyle suggested will work...really anything that is hard and can function as a spacer. Too many other things to spend your hard earned money on.

Thanks guys, I think I like the hard plastic idea. I'll go by Lowe's today. I need to raise the seat because my daughter has a little trouble with the height. I believe it will help visibility for her.

As long as they are solid and the bolts are long enough, I think the strength would not be reduced significantly in a potential impact.

Agree? Or Disagree?

I'm not so sure - in an impact you'd be surprised how much inertia a seat is subjected to. I'd be inclined to find somewhere that sells bars of aluminium and do the job right. Often times you can find scrap aluminium in scrap yards - old double-glazing window frames and similar are often a good source for such projects.

I agree there will be a lot of inertia in an impact, but the stress will be in the bolts not the spacers. The white nylon spacers I used will not crush and the stress will be on the bolt not the blocks. I don't think using metal would be any different.

I'm trying to imagine what the inertia would do in an impact.

I think plastic would shatter or crack - giving the 6 mm screws more free leverage to fail. Aluminium blocks would not do this. The screws would have to fail in sheer - harder to do under the same inertia.

I have just raised my passenger seat for the same reason as Razorback, And I used (now don't laugh) a Nylon cutting board its 15mm thick and made of the same material as they use as sliders on boat trailers its hi impact stuff. And it only cost a $1.50 for a peice
30cm X 20cm. As to how it will react under impact I think it will act as good as aluminum.

I've got the oppisite problem - I need to lose about 1-2" from stock seat height.

A question though, is it a matter of mental "comfort" by seeing more edges of the car, or actualy being too short to see over the wheel?

Hey Baza, that's real similar to the material I was referring to. I used the word plastic in my first post but I really should have used that nylon phenolic stuff they often use for A frame bushings and items like that. The cutting board is similar material and would work well also. Lowering the seat will be more difficult.

She is 5'1". I just think another inch would really help her overall visibility.

And Razorback1980,
when you mentioned plastic; I did think you meant the styrene or chopping block stuff. It would be the simplest to work with, and that stuff is hard. I could use bushings sleeves around the bolts to help with stability.

I used metal bushings through nylon spacers from Lowes w/ new longer bolts to raise my passenger seat to clear an amp. They work great. There is about 3/8" of the hard nylon and then the metal bushing. The nylon won't crack, it will slightly compress but not shatter. I think Razorback's are probably nylon also as I know the source.

I picked mine up from the stereo expert that designed my stereo system. Pretty bright guy. I was rather concerned they would arrive with a St. Louis Cardinals logo painted on them though!

Stereo

You ever get any sound outa that stereo yet Razorback? I just picked up a pair of mint older door panels that I am going to use w/ the same speakers I sent Candace. I want to get rid of the ADS plates that are there now and get a totally stock look. BTW I have something to send you:

Highly portable, one of a kind, 24 oz capacity, highly sought after collectable, lightweight, limited edition you had to be there to get one, only used once.

You need one of these for your garage:

Kyle:

You would not like it, it's a 4 door automatic, very boring and pedestrian. In addition it is owned by a woman who will kill me if it ever goes anywhere. I am going to get rid of a couple of the cups though if it's the last thing I do.
