Thumbs up Attention Canadian Users:12 Point or Triple Square tools at Canadian Tire Stores

Since 12 Point or Triple Square tools are hard to find in Canada, I thought you may like to know that you can find them in the specilty automotive tool section at Canadian Tire.

The Powerbuilt 4 piece Internal Wrench Set #648599, contains 6mm, 8mm, 10mm 12mm Tripple Square tools. Canadian Tire part#25-3224-2, price $11.99CA.

I doubt that they are Snap-On tool quality but the whole package cost less than what Snap-On Tools wants for just one piece.

I find that they are good for one use.......but for 12 bucks its a pretty good deal.

If they are just slightly unseated .... those puppies strip.

I have gone through 3 sets of the crappy tire ones over the years. I bit the bullet and bought a set of snap on.

yea, i was talking to a guy that works in a speedy one day and told him about my quest for the "cheesehead" sockets/bits... he said "dude, just go to crappy tire... they're $9."

great deal, even if you can use them once or twice, I think....

I found triple squares quite by accident when I was looking for allen sockets to take out the intake manfold bolts out. I haven't used them yet but I bought them because I remembered what a pain they were to find. When I first got the car I had to take the car to a VW mechanic just to a adjust the hatch pins, I'm still pi$$ about that.

I HATE stripped bolt heads. I only use sockets and wrenches that are at least middle of the road or better. I don't always require snap on as they are really expensive but if I can't find a quality one any other way, I'll pay the price. Harbor Freight and places like that are great for wire ties or funnels or things that are nonfunctional but if it requires putting stress on it anywhere cheap tools are out for me.... I like my knuckles too much and after you round off a bolt the job will take three times as long and is ten times more frustrating. I'm all for saving money but functional tools are not the place. I'm with Alex...get the good stuff for that one.

The bits they are selling now are really pretty good. The old Lisle set they did sell is crap.
If you get the ones that have the socket part built in (do not require a seperate socket) they are good. I bought the extra-long 8mm one, and used it to do 2 sets of CV's. No problems so far.

^^^^ I got the same ones specifically for the cv's and they were great. Now I have to do the clutch and they will again come in handy.

Must be new for CT. I went there and they had nothing going back a year. Watch there tools though. Most of the stuff their now selling is complete Chinese garbage. Their competing agianst Wall Mart and the such. If you buy one, plan on a once only through out. You'll see the teeth chewed after one use. Never use one that has prior damage or your nut is toast. Then try and get it out. First one after trying had to go to a machine shop to remove. Nut material binds to the cam/engine metle. If the nut has been taken out in the previous two years, it will come out easier.

If you use something with prior damage, your nuts are always toast
Seriously though......
They are new bits, they have some name like 'power forge', and are made of a much harder steel than the old Lisle bits.
The old lisle bits are painted, and after the first use the paint chips off, and they are no longer a tight fit. The second use the points start to bend over and after 1 set of CV's, they are all but useless.
My new one has done the pressure plate (twice, with the same bolts too ), and 2 sets of CV's. I am very impressed with it, and it shows no signs at all of rounding or damage so far. It is very nice because it has a 6" long head, so the base of the bit does not hit the wide part of the CV joint, allowing you to get on them much better. It is just short enough to work on the inner CV joints as well.

I even went as far as to buy a nice one from a local VW shop in the past, and for $12 it was toast after doing 1 set of CV's only.

That's the price for just one socket, if you buy just the bit it works out to be a little more than half the price of the socket.

If and when I do the clutch I may invest in one or more of those but for now I am OK with my purchase. It's more than likely going to sit in my tool box for a while before I have the need to use it any way.
