I am looking to buy a service manual for my 1999 Carrera 4. A friend of mine has a nice Bentley manual for his Boxster, but when I looked at the Bentley Publishing website, I could not find one for the 996 model.
Are there any other good manuals available? I want to do most of my own regular maintenance and servicing, (e.g. brake jobs, strut replacement, etc) but not major stuff like engine rebuilding. So I don't think I need to spend big bucks for the Factory service manual, unless I could get a used one. Any tips or suggestions will be appreciated. ....Rickker |

I bought mine on Ebay, $60.
A salvage yard should sell them as well...see if you can by the "package": owners manuel, quick reference guide, maintenance sports cars, radio reference guide, radio operation manual, dealer directory, warranty info, and road side booklet. Is all this needed, probably not. I just prefer to have things in order.

Mookster, which one was it? I mean, the publisher. And, is it a good one?
Thanks. ...Rickker |

Rickker,
My bad. I was directing you to get the Owner's Manual and not a service manual. Sorry about that. It has been suggested if you want an inexpensive service manual for your 996 you purchase the Boxster Bentley Manual. The mechanicals are similar but this won't help you on the body stuff. You can get the Boxster manual from our host. Body parts, body labor operations, paint times... I use an old Mitchel crash manual...the ones body shops use to write body repair estimates I personally have the euro electronic 996 service manual that I use. Check Ebay, you may find one of these used for the taking.

Check with Bruce Whittier at Foreign Intrigue at 1-800-800-8070. I own some pretty cool manuals written by him. He has a Boxster book but I am not sure about the 996's. My suggestion would be to pay your mechanic to do it the first time while you wait around and see how to perform that specific job correctly. You may need to pay more the first time but it's a good education. Tony
