Does anyone have any experience replacing a rear window regulator in a 997 cabriolet? Is it a DIY job?

It is a pain but it is DIY. There is a rebuild shop in NY that will repair the bad regulator. It is mentioned in this thread.
Right Rear quarter window regulator, convertible - Rennlist Discussion Forums "Hi, just search on Google.....the company is called regulatorusa.com.....I was scared to send my regulator to them but I thought it was broken anyway so why not....The next day that they got my package, they shipped it back to me.... once I got it back, had it installed and I have a working window....I know the price of the new regulator 600.00+... but this cost me 150.00 + 20 dollars to ship. Not a bad deal."

Thanks. I'll definitely save some big bucks by sending it to the rebuild shop once I get it out of the car. But getting it out . . . Any tips? Does it help if the top's raised or lowered? I pulled the interior panel out while the top was lowered and couldn't even see the regulator so that must be wrong. I didn't have the idea to try it with the top raised until after I put the panel back on.

Here is the panel remove. I have seen regulator remove somewhere on web.
Found it on Renntech.org Join if you aren't a member. It is worth it for the DIYs, and TSBs, and general tech info. How to Remove Rear Window Regulator 996 Cab - 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa) - RennTech.org Forums

I did this job in my 996.......doable, but a pain in the butt....I used a friend for help (extra hands), since I did not want to break anything or scratch the car....

All done! Important lessons learned: 1. You can't do this job without a long ball-end 4mm Allen key wrench (Kobalt #338167 or equivalent). 2. The %&^$! #9 screw accepts this 4mm Allen key. Once you take the retaining bolt off, IMO driving the screw all the way IN on the regulator (as opposed to removing it) makes it easier to remove the regulator from the car. 3. The window regulator repair shop in Brooklyn does a good job for under $150 plus shipping. And they turn it around in under a week. Don't waste your money or time on a new regulator. 4. When you're finished and have it all back in, you'll need to teach the window where the limits are. Do this by closing the window all the way and holding the button for 10+ seconds. Repeat for the open position.
