Clutch, AOS, flywheel and IMS bearing replaced, but now won't start!

Hi All,
I'm new here having just bought my first Porsche. Last week I decide to remove the gearbox to do some preventative work. This included replacement of the worn flywheel and clutch, together with IMS bearing, AOS and RMS replacement.

Having put everything back together, I unplugged the DME to crank over and allow oil pressure to build. With the harness disconnected, it wouldn't even crank, so I plugged it back in and tried the methods of briefly starting and shutting off. The battery was near flat. It did turn the car over and it started for a second at which point I shut off. Since then the car will not start.

I've charged the battery and checked the fuses. I can smell petrol when I it turn over which suggests the relay and pump are fine. Does it not also suggest the CPS is okay? There is no hint of it firing at all. Any suggestions?

Thank you.
Alan

Just to add, I've looked at the car again:
Tachometer does move when it turns over. I've replaced the DME relay. It's a UK car and so no clutch interlock switch.

What's odd is twice now when I've been trying to start the car, the alarm suddenly goes off, windows roll half way down and no amount of pressing of the blipper seems to stop it for about 30 seconds.

Well, I'm answering some of my own questions here. I've just figured out that the alarm stuff was caused by the recharged battery eventually going flat after all that cranking. Battery is on charge for the night and will try again tomorrow.

Well, I charged the battery and tested the car this morning. Getting full voltage and staying above 10v when turning over. Still not firing. This time I noticed that the tach needle is NOT moving and I must have been mistaken in my earlier claim that it was moving. Wouldn't this point to a CPS problem? On the other hand, would a bad CPS allow fuel injectors to work (remember that I can smell fuel from the exhaust).
Thank you!

Okay, seems like I'm talking to myself here but this evening I hooked up my Durametric and got two fault codes:
p1579 - CPS

and

P1571 - immobilizer

When I tried logging actual values I could see that the CPS is registering a signal of about 130rpm when cranking, which sound right, so not sure why it is showing a fault.

The immobilizer fault is a mystery to me. Any ideas?

So that CPS message is normally the connection to the CPS itself, or the ring gear on the flywheel being damaged, (or missing)

If it were mine I would change the CPS. It is very easy to hit it when replacing the flywheel. You say you have a signal but it is giving a fault.

I've figured out the problem. The replacement flywheel had some bent teeth that the CPS is supposed to read from. Reference teeth have now been straightened and hoping to put the gearbox back in tonight.

Thanks for the input.
