I need to replace my mk4 golf rear seat belt mechanism.
I removed the rear seat and seat back and can loosen the 17mm bolts that hold the belt in place to the frame, and removed the top cover for the interior rear side panel to reveal the seat belt tensioner, removed the foam casing, and felt that it is also held to the frame with a 17mm hexhead bolt. But it seems I can't get to actually removing that bolt without removing that whole interior panel first, and I can't find any instruction on that Advice appreciated! |

Turns out there are 2 fivepoint star screws that hold in the tie down handle near the bottom of that panel, with those out the panel folds bash enough to get a regular socket w extension in there.
Now comes another problem: Judging by markings on bolt heads, it would appear someone has taken these seatbelts off before. There are three bolts that hold on each seatbelt, and they are all slightly different varieties of 17mm hex head, 7/16" 20tpi: one carriage bolt that goes in the plastic upper bracket, one with a tapered and crimped tip, and one standard bolt that's been greased. Trouble is that the crimped and the greased bolts were on opposite sides of the assembly; the rear drivers side did not mirror the rear passenger side... Which way should I put them back? |
