I think much of the 'tacky vs tasteful' debate on the corners comes from how subtly it is done. I fully agree that on many occasions you see after market corners on a bimmer & they do look tacky, ..............no wait, tacky is not the right word. They look out of place, it's hard to make anything look tacky on a bimmer. This is precisely the reason I didn't get the white chiseled corners, cause they stand out too much. Then there are those clear ones with the chrome housing, WOW, yes Jared has a definite point, very much rice. Now Drews smoked are a subtle addition to his E36, & fit the lines of the car very nicely.

I guess what I was ultimately trying to achieve (with my clear spot corners with the black housing) was the look of the E39 Alpina B10 5 series. The headlight assemblies on that model are the most beautiful I've seen on any car, in my opinion. The clean one piece clear lens, with the (2) large lamps, & (1) smaller 'spot' for the turn marker recessed behind in black housing is a perfect blend of classic & contemporary BMW. I mean, look at these things!

I don't have a pic of my E36 with the new corners, but when I do post it, you'll see what I mean. It's by no means an exact replica of the B10 assembly, but it's pretty frickin close. When I glance at my front end from 10 feet, it's hard to tell the difference. The only thing missing is that little white crescent in the far corner of the assembly, like the B10. I thought about tryin to modify mine, but there is really no way to achieve that. I really wrestled at first with moving away from the stock look, cause I truly liked it, but this is a subtly, tasteful addition.

The first and second of the pics is way to rice... I see it all the time around here and just looks cheap... The third set though, if matched properly (that's the key), can look really nice and stock...

Call me old fashioned but when I see a Bimmer with a windshield sticker, fart-can exaust, 18" wheels and cheapo clear corners I no longer see a highline German auto... I see an old lady in pink housecoat with curlers... What I mean is... No taste. JMHO.

M Logo My project. . . . .

I believe that every vehicle has a limitation that derives from its complete layout. It’s like you trying to put in a circular driveway and a 10 foot fountain in front of a small 2 bedroom house. You may have to make an array of modifications to the entire property to actually have the driveway and fountain compliment the picture.

I remember going through literally hundreds of photos before starting the project on my M. . . Color scheme played a major factor in determining what type of lights I would need to complete the project. I changed out EVERY external light during the project and had a lots of choices to make.

My “M” is alpine white but I decided to brighten it up just a smudge. . . I went with the clear lights “all the way around” and I was very satisfied with the results. I’m not sure most of us would have my same taste but I’ve got nothing but compliments since being completed. . . . .

isn't this ironic -- Pelican Parts ads in the Roundel say that these forums won't be about ricer issues....and this thread is debating how ricey clear corners are!!

Aren't these technical forums?

M Logo Right or Wrong?

I’m persuaded to think that the real topic her is opinionated. I believe that “ricer issues” would include how to put loads of stickers on your car, what color they painted their interiors and similar.

This has turned into a preferential debate on “corner lights’. . . . .

No, those are the chrome housing ones. The third one was a black housing corner. Here try these links.

There probably gonna take you a little while to get use to. When I first put mine on, I wasn't sure. I mean, they looked good, but your front end makes a transformation. I've had em about a week now, & love em more each time I see them.

Well if you find a tasteful solution to the backs, that doesn't cost you a boat load of cash, let me know. To me, doin the back really depends on what you did to the front & side. If you put on the clear/black housing corners, then I don't think it is even necessary to do the back or sides. The corners should look like an extension of the headlights, therefore it won't clash is you leave the side or back amber. Now if you have white corners, then ya gotta do the side in white, & likewise the back will look outta place with that strip of amber as well. Unfortunately, at $200 a piece, it's kinda expensive to have that upper strip of your tail lights all white.
