No... no way to prove it. Even if the other ones are over inflated, they could just say, "Oh, we forgot to fill that one that exploded." or "The others might have been over inflated, but that one was right." No way to prove any story either way. How worn were your tires? Tires are engineered to have a huge margin of safety, since they are a crutial part and often the pressure is not regulated (how often does the average Joe check their tire pressure?). They shouldn't blow... even if over inflated. If over inflated, you should get uneven wear... heavier wear in the center of the tread. Where did the blow out occur (location on the tire)? On the sidewall? In the tread? Are you sure you didn't catch something on the roadway?

all the tires were over inflated and the tires have about 50% left on them and the whole inside of the sidewall has holes in it as well as an additional hole on the outside sidewall

How much were they inflated to? You really have to work hard to make a tire explode...

That is the strangest blow-out I have heard of.... holes all over in the inner sidewall, and one on the outer sidewall???? A normal blow out usually occours in a slit or a tear pattern. There is also the infamous 'bubble' where a manufacturing defect causes the sidewall to bubble out and rupture. BUT... to have multiple holes in a blow out is very, very odd. Yeah, what were the tires inflated to? Just as a reference, there is company called Chitwood racing that does stunt driving... the usual trick driving stuff like brining the cars up on two wheels and driving at an angle. To do this, they push their tires up to over 100 psi, and then they abuse the hell out of them. The point of this story is that tires are strong (or they should be). If you only have half wear on your tires, and even though they may be a bit over-inflated, they shouldn't blow out... and not like that.
I would say it was a manufacturer's defect, but then it should have shown up sooner, with signs of weakness in the side wall (like a bubble or a seam). I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it almost sounds like something got onto or into your tire... like an acid or something that ate away at the tire in several spots. If you've got pics, that would help tremendously. |

If you get a lawyer, who are you going to go after? The shop? The tire manufacture? If the shop doesn't readily admit blame, or if they don't compensate you just to keep you as a satisfied customer, you are going to have a tough time getting much out of them. Just to play 'devil's advocate', what if you go back to the shop to b*tch and complain about it, but then the shop dude just looks at you and says, "Nope... we put in the right amount... we think you went home and put in more air in your tires to make it look like it was our fault." or "We put the same amount in each tire.. the other tires are fine. It wasn't our fault... you had a defective tire." If you really raise hell, you may find yourself leaving in a cop car and will have to get a lawyer regardless. Events like these are legal nightmares, since no one cause can be pinpointed. Hey Slow328, how much over-inflation are we talking about?
