BMW Roundel Codes

I finally got to replacing my O2 sensor after reading the codes and the result being 1222. I read the article that states how to clear the codes after reading them...

" When you are finished reading the codes, you can reset the computer and clear them all out._ Make sure that the last code (1000) has occurred, and then press down on the gas pedal for more than 10 seconds._ This should clear out the memory of the DME. _ Repeat the fault code reading process, and the computer should generate code 1444, which means that there are no faults stored."

Well, my car wont display 1000 (just keeps displaying 1222 over and over) nor can I can I clear the memory with the above mentioned procedure.

By the way, the car idles more consistently after the O2 replacement, but the check enginelight still comes on after leaving the car idling for more than 15 seconds.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable for longer than 5 seconds to reset.

Negative Battery Cable

Just tried this, and other than my OBC needing to be readjusted, no change.

The check engine light still comes on and the codes read 1222, even after I installed a new O2 sensor.

The car idles fine now and runs really well, just that darn Check engine light...

I'll live with it for now...

You have now done both of the things described in the different manuals. I hope someone has another idea. I'll check some of the other writeups I've seen. Maybe I've missed something. Usually disconnecting the battery resets everything including radio codes, OBC etc. Do you know someone with the Peake R5 reset tool? This can also be used to read & reset all codes. Is it possible that there is still a problem within the system and the code is valid yet? Did you check the O2 sensor heater relay? Its the one next to the fuel pump relay (engine bay) toward the rear of the car?
