E30 M3 Getrag 265
I'm sure I got the box number there correct -from memory- but anyway:
I'm wondering what "The" oil is for this 5 speed, dogleg box. I have exactly the same box in my Cosworth 190E Merc, and info is a bit scarce. The Mercedes forums seem to favour Redline MTL, which sounds fine to me. Mercedes recommend their own ATF fluid (yes, you read correctly, ATF). Any further suggestions?

BMW also recommends their own ATF, although many people have good experiences with either Redline MTL or Redline D4 ATF.

Thanks guys.
Jared, I use Swepco 201 in my 911 box, which is quite hard to come by out here although well worth it. Works fantastically. But each box requires a specific oil! I think I'll run with the redline, as I've found an NZ supplier. I suppose I could research this, but didn't the E30 M3 come out in '85? If so, it means they poached the box from Mercedes' application in the Cossie (Nardo test track, Italy 1983: 150 mph for 8 days solid..Weldreckord!) rather than develop it themselves. Interesting.. Jared, do you still have your E30? I sold mine in Nov last year, but may entertain buying another. Maybe an Alpina this time?

Are you looking at importing a E30 from California to New Zealand? Might be more to import it than the car is worth, lol....

Ha! Nice shot!
No, I wasn't thinking of buying, just curious if you still had it. Unfortunately we're not able to import 'mordern' left hand drive cars here. Well we can, but not for road use. Not sure of the cut-off date, but LHD M3's are out of the equation. My 911's a LHD, but I am able to get a permit for that because of its age. I'm starting to wonder if I will need a permit for my age too soon
