Lightbulb So how hard can replacing convt window be???

My 96 318IC window is hazey. It's the only imperfection on a beautiful car. It is time for a change...

I've noticed prices for the sheet of plastic is ~ $270. I could always just drop it off at the dealer and pick it up in a couple of hours - but what is the fun in that?

Does anybody have any experience changing these windows? I have the zipper version.

There are things you can try. have you tried polishing it? They make some alumina suspended polish that will clean up a slightly hazy window. If it is hazy like frosted privacy glass, then it's not coming back. I used the alumina polish with a power buffer on my rear window and it made it crystal clear except for a line in the middle where the window folds.

Now, to change out the window, you have a few choices... depends on how creative you are. Yeah, you can go and just have the window replaced at the shop, or you can buy a replacement window, get the zipper tool (which is the key to replacing them) and do it yourself, or you can get even more creative and get some of your own window material from McMaster-Carr (scratch resistant clear PVC), take out the old window, have an uhpostery shop cut the pattern and sew in a new zipper, then you can reinstall it. It all comes down to which is cheaper and how much time you want to spend. The cool thing is you can get the smoke tinted PVC sheeting from McMaster and make your own 'tinted' rear convertible window. That would be kind of trick.
