Cannot connect to ECU

Hi, is there anyone out there that can help me. I have been having problems with my 1993 BWM 325ic. The biggest propblem that once fixed will make fixing the rest easier, is that the mechanics cannot communicate with my ECU. I have replaced my ECU twice already in the past 6 months but stil no luck.

I am not very mechanically minded, so all I can tell toy is that the ECU is a Bosch Mototronic. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what can be done, r what could be causing the problem that the mechanics scantool cannot communicate with the ECU.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Govin.

P.S. Could you perhaps email any info or suggestions to govin_p@discoverymail.co.za.

Thanks again.

Might help If I knew exactly what the problem was..

The ECU controls the whole system, It's output to the ignition and fuel-air mixture is dependent on the varous sensors around the engine. Im a little confused as to what would be communicating with the ECU.

Ok, so you are trying to read the fault codes.. What is wrong with the engine?

What kind of tool are they using?

The are a few problems.
1. The car is jerking quite badly.
2. It cuts out regularly.
3. Faults intermittently come up on the OBD, even though there is no problem, eg Tail light failure comes up regularly even though both tail lights are working, or Check coolant level even though it is full.
4. Fuel consumption is ridiculous and you can smell that the petrol is burning rich.

Unfortunately, according to the mechanic, the settings to fix some of these has to e done with the scantool/dme editor.

Hoppe this helps and thanks for taking the time to help.
