power windows e30 HELP!

1985 325e 2-door
Both power windows stopped working. It was not like one stopped, then the other stopped. they both just stopped one day. I cna't imagine both switches failed at the same time. There is no fuse in the fuse box listed for the power windows, plus all other accessories work fine, including the power sunroof.
Is there a relay somewhere that controls both windows?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks, Ken

Ken,
If it's not the fuse, which is quite typical, then it could be the power windows lockout switch. It's doubtful to be a relay, as each window has a separate one and I don't see them both failing at the same time.

Re: Re power windows

Yurrick,

thanks for the reply. I am not sure what the power windows lock out switch is.
Do all e-30's have this?

thanks, Ken

Ken,
I thought that they all did, but I am not sure about yours, as mine is a 1990 vintage. If you have it, then it should be in the neighborhood of the power window switches.

Yurrick,
Thanks for the info. do you have any other ideas.
I do not have a such a switch. I looked on my friend 1987 E30 4-door. It has a switch to lock out the rear windows to prevent kids from playing with the windows while in the back seats. My 2-door has no such switch. The owner's manual mentions a circuit breaker for the electric window motors.
I checked, and this is not the problem.

Ken

Ken,
Sorry, no other ideas. Other than the fuses or relays, I don't know. Check the power window swithes themselves; you never know.

hey yurick,

i hope im not beating a dead horse with this but, i think ken was on the right path. i have an '85 318i, and the window lock-out switch on mine is on the dash on the same row as the hazard switch and the speaker balance control, it might not be labeled, the button itself has red sides, and you can only see the red part when the button is depressed, red means windows locked, hope any of this helps.
