can I add a tepm guage?

I am looking for help to add a seperate coolant temp guage to a 92' 325ic.
Pics are added below and I am pointing to where, in the last resort, I guess I could drill & tap a fitting to add the temp sender unit .
(a little back up info...I have replaced the sender 2x, the maint board behind the guages 4x. all resulting in the OE temp guage needle to "seem" to act normal i.e. not be twitching most of the time or being eratic, THUS, I want to add a seperate guage to really know what the temp is).

Questions:
1. Has anyone done this before? if so, please tell & show all.

2. If not, is there a "plug" that can be removed from the head or block to use to install the new sender?

3. I know of the ones that can be strapped around the outside of a coolant hose, however, I am told that they are 10-20 degrees off the actual temp...not good enough for me.
The product that you cut into a coolant hose and add the sender mounting coupler & sender...do these work?? If so, which hose do you cut into and what product do you recommend??

4. The pics attached show the goose neck/front of engine area...if I was to drill/tap and weld if needed into the flat & raised area to put the new sender, IS THIS IN THE CORRECT FLOW POSITION?? I believe the sender needs to monitor the temp BEFORE coolant goes to radiator, right?

Thanks for all of your input! Bob

On E36 M3's aftermarket sensors are put on an aftermarket metal thermostat housing. I have had my housing for over a year but haven't bought the sensor and installed it.

I'd like to see what you do though. I wonder what Ohm range the factory sensor puts out and if there is an aftermarket gauge that uses the same range.

As far as flow, the pump should send coolant across the head, it comes out the back, T's off to the heater core and comes back to the pump in a hose. That's the closed loop.
