Ignition Driver Transistor - E36 DME - Source or replacement types?

Hello all,

my daughters 316i (7/95 Europe) had one shorted coil (in the block of four).

I replaced the coil pack, but still #4 has no spark.

Diagnostics gets error: "ignition driver"

I checked the DME and found that one of the four driver transistors is blown.

I havenŽt been able to find any infos on this thing nor a replacement type.

Its marked 30011.

Please help me get this thing running again..

Ok, i found it.

IŽll post the result for the benefit of everyone ..

The transistor that worked for me is a BU323Z.
Its is pin compatible to the org. Bosch 30011

It also is a NPN Darlington with an integrated 360V Clamp - specifically designed for electronic ignitions.

Car has been running severals days now - that is not enough time to call it really fixed - IŽll let you all know if a new problems should occur.

What seems odd to me is that Bosch or BMW would not integrate some sort of fuse to reduce the harm done by a shorted coil.

Charging a customer many hundred $ for a new DME - when all that is needed is a lousy transistor valued at less than $5,- (Or a fuse valued at some cents..)

No wonder the auto industry is hurting - I donŽt like beeing ripped off.
