Transmission conversion to manual, differential swap neccesary?

Hi i converted my 89' E30 325is to manual, using parts out a wrecked ecology 91' E30 325is. Now i feel like i rev up too fast in first, without really getting too much speed. Not a clutch problem, just have to shift too soon, it feels like. So i put bigger tires in the back and now it feels good. I was wondering if my 89' automatic differential is different from a 91' manual transsmisions'. or if your just meant to shift out of first real fast like.

HI i just found this answer elsewhere...
"The diff ratio multiplies torque, the engine output does not change.

The 4.10 ratio enable the engine to run at a higher rpm where it produces more power because the auto tranny absorbed more power than the manual tranny. In '89 the 5-speeds had 3.73 ratio and the auto had 4.10. Have you verified the ratio via the wheel & driveshaft turn method?"

soo excited that is why it felt off cause i need a manual trans differential. one last thig though are all 5spd in the E30 alike, that is to say same ratios, and is there a 3.73 differential with LSD?

Try diffsonline.comto answer your question.

Yes, auto trannys usually have a quicker ratio.

Cool got it, so i will just get the 3.73LSD out of some junkyard car and i'll be good to go. probably like up to 15mph in first at 3000rpm. I was wondering though, what is the difference between the getrag 260/5 and the ZF manual. witch is german, either? And witch is better? stronger or lasts longer? This is for the 89' - 91' E30's. wich is the prefered manual tranny to have?

by the way witch is the getrag, the smooth one or the one with crosshatched ridges? thanks for any leads
