Need to charge battery but trunk won't open
My 96 328IC has a busted convertible top and a dead battery. The trunk will only open by pressing the 'secret spot' on the trunk lid that bypasses the interlock. However since the battery is dead, that doesn't work so I can't get the trunk open in order to get to the battery.
Can the car be charged through the cigarette lighter or is there some other way of getting the battery charged or the trunk open? Thanks for the help! Dzve |

There should be a battery terminal on the passenger side of the fire wall under the hood. That is where you are supposed to attach jumper cables or charger so you are never in danger of injury from an exploding battery (which can happen when you attach cables to a battery).
The negative lead goes to a good ground connection on the engine, like the lifting lug at the front top of the engine. You can charge through the cigarette lighter, but only if you trickle charge it. A larger charger will blow the fuse. |

I've owned the car for 8 years and never realized that. I did see the plastic cover with the + on it but it didn't look like a battery connector.
Thank you for the help. It's a sad day when you don't learn something. Dave |
