328i starting problems after engine swap
A while back I bought a '96 328i with an auto with a bad head gasket. Long story short, the engine had a pitted cylinder from sitting with coolant in it so I swapped it out. I found another wrecked but running '96 328 and swapped in the entire drivetrain. Motor, trans, computer, and wiring harness out of the wrecked car all went in as one unit. When I tried to start it, it just clicked and now does nothing in the start position. I'm guessing it's the anti theft and I'm going to have to get it all flashed to work together with the car. Any insight is appreciated. The dealer here was no help.

It's likely an EWS problem. Google BMW E36 EWS bypass. There are a few different ways to do this.

I've been reading on this today and it looks like the key, ews module, and the dme all have to synchronized. I have the original dme, and I think I'll swap it back in to see if that works.
