Hi. Just got a 1998 318is BMW. It consume gas like nothing. Suggestions were airflow meter mass flow meter. I replaced it but no change... Black smoke at the back exhaust. The idle is sometimes hunting. Thought of throttle valve but have not bought one to replace yet. thinking the O2 sensor in the exhaust could be as well. Now thinking what else can it be other than those mass flow meter, O2 sensor and the throttle valve. Worse it is doing 350km 218miles per full tank... not goo at all.

Check your o2 sensor, if it is stuck lean the DME will try to correct and enrich the mixture. You can also check the fuel delivery system, check fuel pressure, volume and quality and check that an injector isn't leaking, (system hold pressure with key off).
