No speed signal getting to cruise or obc apparently.
98 m3. Mostly stock, not driven much. Everything worked great until alternator started overcharging. Replaced but now cruise control and all speed-related functions on obc avg speed, mpg etc don't work. The speedo, odo and the rest of the gauges work fine. I understand that the speed signal goes from vss-gauges-cruise&Obc.
Hwhat and how should I check for signal coming out of gauges? Ps I see subforums for every chassis except e36. What am I missing?? Thanks! |

Welcome to the Forum! - I'm attaching a link to a tech article that should help you troubleshoot your gauge issue (I know the article says 'Porsche' but the BMW gauges are very similar so the article is interchangeable) - for now, all E36 related questions should get posted in this section. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Article was very interesting but not applicable to my digital gauges in my 1998 Bmw m3. As I understand it, the speedo works off of a speed signal from the vehicle speed sensor on the diff. The speedo works fine. What doesn't work are cruise and speed functions on the obc. Since the speedo works, the VSS works but the VSS signal is not getting to cruise or obc.
Does ANYone know which wire(s) going to obc are speed signal??? Last edited by jfryjfry; 11-10-2016 at 01:59 PM.. |
