That's a very interesting article. I double checked my "914 Tech Tips" book and it's possible that they are referring to the "VO" engines being magnesium (although it doesn't say that).

I looked on the Tuna-Can web site and it states that all Type-4 cases are aluminum except a very rare case stamped "VO". It says that the VO case is for industrial use but not for the 914.

Interesting, the tech tips book says:

"1975-1976 914 owners, BEWARE! Warped cases have resulted in extremely hot running engines. If you engine runs hot, even after rebuilding, this is the problem. The only solution is to replace the case. We suggest using the earlier model aluminum cases instead. Cases are virtually interchangeable except for the engine serial number."

I'm satisfied....my case definitely looks aluminum. I learn something new every day............................Vern
