Look closely at my cone filter pic you'll see the breather from the timing belts cover, rigth in the back of it there is a bracket, that is what is missing on your's the rear of your air box is connected to this bracket & I agree with you it is a mess you got a pinch hose & another one witch is almost worn rigth througt that will have to be replace. I really think you should go the cone filter way with this it will be less work & there'll be more space if you want to work that side of the motor,don't get discourage do a little bite a the time it's not that bad the motor seem to be clean at least it's not cover with oil ,clean all the hoses & connector before you reinstall.I will also take the front timing belt cover off & clean the inside it must be full of gunk to. If your not up to frabricate your own cone filter brakets there are not that expensive & usualy very easy to install, also make sure your AFS is in good shape before installing keep use post as you go.
