I know it is tricky trying to look at the eccentric and the "U" at the same time. It is said to mark a line to the plate on the eccentric to give you a good orientation than burn the visual Scribe on the U while you move to the desired position.
I also found the eccentric have a bit of play so not a great source to depend on.
