79 930 driven as intended

I’ve watched this video a few times and totally agree that this is what Dr Porsche intended but somehow I just don’t believe most drivers are up to the level demanded of the 930 straight out of the box..

I watch this video and see what a demonic force even a stock 300 hp 930 is when driven as intended.

Then I wonder how any novice driver could drive a stock 930 as intended let alone a 930 with 400,600,800 hp..

S2000? They’re great sports cars that are easily controllable in a drift. A 930 is a faster car or at least my 911 turbo is by far faster but not nearly as fun to drift as an s2000. Our cars are not easy to drive like that. Guy in this video is awesome.

Yeh…. but the strategically placed sand on the corners helped with the wild ass slides, you can clearly see the tell-tale kicked up dust, each time the cars drifts out. Even on the aerial shot you can easily make out the placement of sand at the corner apex. Or maybe it's just a coincidence with the dust. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to take anything away from the drivers skill, I'm just saying......

In reality, Lower that sucker, tweak the suspension a bit and put some real rubber on the car, and you could drive that road faster with better control without the added "flair". After all, driving fast uphill in a 930 means your under load all the time which equates to on boost all the time....who doesn't love that experience!

Driving like that guy in a 930 is a white knuckle experience. It can happen but a 930 is better used with efficiency. Other cars are awesome kicking the tail out every corner. It is fun and the 930 will do it every time you want but it’s just a little less satisfying. Looks cool though.

I've tried that in the wet, it's doable - but takes COJONES GRANDES.... *massive* commitments... esp w/ them kerbs lining that route. No thanks.

Good catch Mark. I didn't see the sand the first time I watch it, but it is everywhere.
All I kept thinking is; there is no way my car in stock form would blow the tires like that.

I just figured they used old bald tires, didn't see any sand.
I'm not sure you could drift a stock 930 at low speeds as there is only a 2000rpm power band. The turbo falls off if you modulate the throttle to keep off redline like you would with a front engine V8 car.

I'm seeing sand. I'm also seeing an LSD, which about 80% of 930s didn't get from the factory.

Huh. And I would’ve thought it was the other way around. That’s the first option I look for on a COA, and it seems to be on most of the 930s for sale, at least the ones I can recall anyways.

Interesting...I wonder if there is a year when Porsche started to not include LSD unless specifically ordered. My 1976 930 has LSD. And the 1977 930 box I just rebuilt has LSD. I still think that video is a joke.

I have no idea if there’s a split in production, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve sold a ton of them over the years for cars that weren’t equipped.
