Weird noise from injectors - car won't start

https://youtu.be/3lX0Z9WKTqw

This is the weird sound I hear when I lift up the air flow sensor. It can be heard during cranking and if I give direct 12V to the fuel pump. Can't say if it's always been there or not.

Anybody has a clue about this?

There is absolutely no power/combustion.

Car has not run for over a year and I am trying to finally get back to it.

Thanks to all of you guys!

well there is obviously a dog stuck in your air box.

not the sound I was expecting.
also, your in the 930 section.
might post in 911 side.

you should also post the year of the car

it looks like there is no pressure on the air flow sensor arm. you should feel resistance as soon as you lift it.
that could be a stuck plunger in the fuel distributor.
if so you have to be careful that you are not dumping fuel into the cylinders so this makes troubleshooting a little more difficult.

you could pull an injector and see if fuel is actually coming out first..

I think I would start with one of 2 things and only because that is NOT the sound you should hear when you lift the plate.
you can either verify the FP is working properly (due to strange sound)
or you can remove the FD and check for stuck plunger. more work.
actually now I think I would start with verifying the FP is working.
could also be plugged screen in the tank, or fuel filter issues.

I think I would remove the fuel line to the FD and check for fuel that way first. run the pump and check for fuel flow. there should be a spec for fuel volume but it is probably out of the FD, not directly from the pump. it should be more than the spec.

Car is 1982 SC USA.

Tried also to put some gasoline under that "mushroom" on top/behind the air box. No power at all, still :-(

Should I try with some spray or stuff like that in order to help it turn on?

Rechecked the spark, it's there, at least on the first cylinder on the right, the one which is easy to access.

Please move the thread to the proper section if possible, sorry for the mistake!

you have a fuel issue.
you don't have any fuel pressure on top of the FD putting pressure on the AFM sensor arm.
I can hear it flopping around when you let go. it should not do that.
you need to figure out why.

start with verifying pumps run and you have the proper pressure.
gauges would be nice but if you don't we may be able to work around it up to s certain point.

there is a frequency valve on the back side of the FD. it has 2 hoses and an electrical connector attached. just out of curiosity, turn the key ON and make sure it vibrates.

The porsche mechanic here said it should somehow give some sign of life by pouring gasoline inside that mushroom after the FD. Even if there is fuel pump fault, fuel regulator fault or anything in the fuel line.

It should bring gasoline directly into the inlet...

You disagree? I will try my last shot tomorrow, let's see what happens.

Regarding the pressure on the AFM sensor arm, it actually gives some resistance while lifting it up. It flops down when I let it go. The sound my mechanic said I should expect when lifting the AFM sensor would be some sort of uuuuiiiii. This trrrrrrrr is kind of weird I suppose.

not sure what you mean by "last mushroom" but if you are referring to the throttle body, then yes, pouring a little gas in should make it fire.

the noise you should hear is kind of like a squealing sound.

the AFM should NOT bounce like that.
you should feel a lot of resistance as soon as you lift it.

it really sounds like the plunger is stuck in the up position.
but you may also have other issues with fuel/fuel pump.

I would make sure you have fuel pressure first. if you don't and you fix it you "may" get lucky and not have to pull the FD off.

gauges would be a big help

FP is dead, lots of dirt inside. I have taken it down after seeing I have no fuel at the filter by loosening the pipe there and giving direct 12V to the pump.

Found out it's the original FP. Time to change it, change filter and clean the tank.

I will bring the tank to the mechanic and see if I need tankerite or just rinsing.

After that we'll give it another try.

Thanks for now! Will keep you up to date :-)

Meanwhile I decided to get a new tank. I took mine apart and it looks quite rusty and clogged with dirt.

Hopefully I will be able to manage to purge the hoses and hope it will all be enough for a smooth restart.

Cheers everyone!
