Knock Sensor Location - case bolt?
Hi guys, I’m considering adding a safeguard to my car. In considering the possible locations for a Bosch knock sensor, has anyone ever used the case bolts on the top of the engine (for example where the alternator ground wire is attached)? Seems like it’s relatively easy to access and can be done with the fan shroud in place. I’m pretty sure those are the correct m8 size but could be mistaken. Thanks for entertaining the question!
In thinking some more, these bolts might actually be studs. With that being the case, how about using an m8 female/female coupler in lieu on the nut and then attaching the knock sensor to the unused end? Assuming that’s easier that trying to get the stud out in situ. Last edited by sigchuck; 12-03-2023 at 06:30 AM.. Reason: Additional thought |

Looking forward to seeing how this works out.
Did you look on the bottom on the case for a similar access point? Less desirable yes, but I recall that sometimes there is just one bolt or bolt hole that makes it easier to get the sensor attached directly to the case.

Excellent - thanks, Spuggy.
I had seen lots of folks use the throttle console but would like avoid removing intake and shroud. Did you go with a longer stud in the case? Any issues you see using a nut coupler? Thanks! |

I used that location. If your hand is the right size you can get one in there. Just. Take the nut off a stud, replace with a coupler, lower the knock sensor on its tail with a correct length bolt and away you go. It’s not easy but it can be done and it way less effort than removing everything.
