Phase 2 of my build in progress
So phase 2 of my project is to adapt a stronger transmission into the car. I have decided to use a 996 6 speed trans using Top Designs adapter kit. So far I am in the parts acquisition part and I have the trans and the adapter kit from Tyler
![]() ![]() ![]() also the brain to adapt an electronic speedo to an older mechanical speedo car ![]() Working out details to get 108mm CV joints into my car since I have SC 100mm CV and my conclusion is a 74 axle will do the trick I just have to remove the 2 pins in each joint. Next will be the coilover upgrade and I am working at getting my head around the chassis mods I will need to do. Initially it will be slow going not much will be done this winter as I want to have the majority of the parts on hand before I drop the drivetrain to start doing the mods. So please bear with me for now.

So a little background I have a 78 SC chassis with a 3.2 short stroke built off of a 79 SC 3L donor engine so I have some interesting challenges here to get this shoehorned in so it should be interesting

Can't wait to follow along on this journey. I'm nearly complete on a 3.6 VRam swap in my '81 and this would be the next logical upgrade to replace the 915. It'll probably be several years before I attempt it but this is exciting.

Follow along because having an 81 you would have many of the same challenges I will have

I have no idea how hard or expensive this is to accomplish, but I’ll be jealous when you’re done. The one thing that shows the age (or the era) of the 930s is the slow deliberate shifting that they require, regardless of Wevo/Stomski/delrin/new synchros… they will never be “snick-snick” like modern sports cars. To say nothing of the RPM drops inherent with only 4 gears.

Those transmissions are pretty stout from what I’ve read but I know fitting them and spring have some challenges.
Way cheaper than a G50 box |

The prime mover on deciding which way to go G50s are outrageous now thanks to singer pedal assemblies are outrageous also due to singer G50 components are hard to find. The G96 is easier to find and apparently easy to work on and a 6 speed to boot but this is going to take a lot mare work to get it in. Thank goodness my carpet set was getting a bit worn in areas because the tunnel area will get a lot of attention. I should be able to keep my 993 rear seats but might take a bit of massaging.

HEY! Those are some nice looking parts! :P
Glad everything arrived safely. We have a growing group of builders going down this path using my kit. With the collaboration that's already building, things will just get easier for everyone. I've had a lot of recent interest on this kit. 2nd batch of adapting parts is in production now. Some additional parts to make the job easier are also in the works! gsmith660 - It's be great talking with you as you start this project. Thank you for taking the initiative to start this thread. Anyone who is interested or just curious about how this all works, feel free to post here or PM me, or get my contacts from my website. More to come.

Well it has been decided that I will adapt a 996 center console into the car because a lot of the stuff runs on top of the tunnel

So this trans has no provision for the stock hardlline throttle so I need to get a measurement an find a cable that will go to the back and now basically none of the stock pedals are needed so I think I am going with a Wilwood pedal assembly and am researching what I need for master cylinders as I determine this stuff I will post what I use probably 23 mm or 27 mm for the brakes and 22 for the clutch about 1.5 inch stroke if this sounds right please let me know your opinions

You might want to cross post this on the 911 Technical forum for a wider audience. Someone has probably done the Wilwood thing and figured that out. The turbo board is the same 50 or so knuckleheads, and I use the term fondly.

The inside of the case is really clean minor buildup on the magnet no sludge anywhere in the case so I am confident the only issue is second gear
