My new 83 Turbo.....first round of sliding down the slope...

I have owned the car for a week. Love it.
I figure I should get it well sorted before I ever worry about mods of any significant nature.
Compression and leakdown were fantastic.
Few small oil leaks......cam chain housings, turbo (origional at 70K miles), oil line to tank at clamp.....nothing earth shattering.
Factory Euro exhaust.
Ok, so I spent 2 hours removing old glue from the door seals in preparation for that install tonight.
I have new decklid shocks....I'm sure that won't be nearly as fun as it was with the Targa.....
I have an air filter and shifter bushing kit to install.....
Then off to the doctor......since the turbo has a small oil leak, and a rebuild is $600+, I have a new K27 7200 to put in her. I have a stainless B+B muffler I picked up for a song, slightly used.....a stainless wastegate pipe, a cam chain tensioner rebuild kit, complete, and a driveshaft rebuild kit, once he has the shaft rebuilt for me.......
I figure that plus a few other items, like valve adjust, plugs, oil and filter, and she is new again.....
I want to make sure the critical parts are perfect, so I can enjoy her without worry......
Anything I am forgetting to look at? Belts are new, battery is fine, Sucro relay kit arriving tonight maybe, (Yes I will paint the headlight rings in the spring when I do the bumper and valance).
She runs really strong, and WOW, what a blast.......ordered my plates too, seeing as I have wanted this car since I was 13......and I am 41, plates are WRTHWTG4....

Cheers,
Mark

Nice ride Mark....

A few things I would do to 'baseline' the car would be

Change the transmission oil
Change the brake fluid
Ball joints
Tie rod ends
Verify your fuses and relays.. take a look for corroded wires or junctions
You can look at wheel bearings & dust seals (I did my fronts)
Distributor cap/rotors, plugs.. not sure if you've looked at that.
fuel filter

I did those things on mine as I picked up my car last year... and much like yourself, car of my dreams since I could remember. I may even have pictures of the car I drew when I was 6 or so!!

Congratulations, they sure are a blast.. if you enjoy working on cars, you'll get a good kick out of this.

That K27 you purchased is my next 'bolt on' mod that i will do. I look forward to hearing the difference it makes.

Thanks Mark !!

Good stuff there......I didn't add all that....suspension is all newer, dist, plugs, valves, transmission all are on that list too......
I am dying to see what the new turbo feels like too.....if I get it back and there's still good weather, we can hook up at Sherway on a Saturday, and you can take it for a spin to feel the 7200.....
I just smile every time I step on the gas......what a great car.

Looks like we're building a bit of a 930 collection in the GTA.

Weather's not looking so good for this Saturday, but I'd love to see the car Mark. By the sounds of it, you've hit the slippery slope running!

I love the fact that my car can still put a smile on my face anytime I like.

Kirk

There have been several threads on the Rennlist forum about trouble installing the 27HF turbo. When I installed mine I didn't experience the ones mentioned but I was puzzled by the bracket that helps support the turbo to the engine support. It has some built in tension so that when you take it off it seems like it won't go back on. It will but you will have to figure out the proper sequence of re-installing the bolts for your car to tighten a little at each bolt until it goes back flat. Some leave it off but I don't think Porsche would have gone to that much trouble for something that wasn't needed. I later put headers on and it would NOT fit so I cut it into two pieces and then welded it back together.

27HF.....

I a, looking at the 27 7200.....I don't know if they have the same brackets or not.....but the guy doing my work is a Porsche racing guy, so I assume he can handle whatever curves come his way.
Thanks for the heads' up though.....

I have a K27-7200 on my car and I installed it fairly easily at home. You will have no issues with the install.

Love the car and congrats, so you're located just north of Oshawa?
