Need Pictures - Passenger's Side Exit Turbo Muffler Installed
I've had a lot of requests for a turbo muffler with the tail pipe on the passenger's side.
I'd like to get some input from those who have done it and those who would like to. Post your pictures. What did you do with the valance? There are a couple of things I can offer with a muffler of that configuration. The simplest is to include a cardboard template for the passenger's side exit, a DIY cutout. There is also the option of a custom fiberglass valance that only has a passenger's side cutout. Something like that would add a lot of expense once painted but would look very good. What have you guys done? Would you even be interested in a custom valance?

never scraped but will probably change it a bit this winter season.. My main thing was not rasing the turbo up to high but may just need to tilt it back towards the bumper a bit more

ssis specifically designed for 930's I fabbed and welded from the v band back.. It must be noted that I had to stay within a certain design to keep using the muffler etc without mod mostly because I wanted to be donw with the project..
![]() This is my engine in close to final assebly note that this system including the headers are all 321 and here is a pic of autosportenginnering.com version for a stock 930 (remember mine was a NA 3.0 at one point) ![]()

My suggestion would be to create a template for the cutout, and provide a blockoff plate for the left side, similar to the torsion tube cover plates.

Brian:
I have right side exhaust, although it's not a 930. Ben and I spoke about your valence project, and that valence on the 930 spuggy's photo looks great. Do you have any pictures of your prototype? I'll post a picture of my current Flowmaster, the new M&K is on the way from Wisconsin as I type. Pat

Cardboard template. Sharpie. Metal cutting wheel on my Dremel and re-paint by a friend who has a body shop. B&B is a little off on passenger side due to angle of muffler.

There is no valance prototype. I buy fiberglass valances and modify them to fit the muffler. I plan to put one on this weekend that is unmodified for use with a Zork. There are no exhaust cutouts. The Zork has a high gloss polish and looks AWESOME! Stay tuned for pix.
I thought about the driver's side "plug" but the same problem persists - paint. If the plug is not the color of the valance it won't look good. I think Spuggy has the right idea - stick a W/G dump out the back and be done with it! I could package the muffler, dump, and hardware as a bolt-on kit. How would that be? ![]()

That's air-cool-me's (Nick's) photo - it's a Rennspeed RUF CTR bumper cap to fit SC/Carerra flares. I liked the way the setup looked just fine, but I couldn't live with the volume levels - fitted a factory muffler.

Spuggy:
Is that Nick's old SC? Or, did he just take the photo? Pat

Here is the muffler assembly I made using a Magnaflow and some scrap SS pipe. This assembly uses a v-band turbo connector, and you can see the O2 bung just after it.
![]() Here is the care with the assembly installed. The wastegate dumps at a 45 degree angle down. ![]() Here is an old pic of the same car where I cut out the valance to accomodate the straight through muffler. This shot shows a straight tail pipe where now I have a slight turn down. ![]() Last edited by DonE; 07-20-2007 at 06:28 PM.. |

Wow Don, what a transformation!
I noticed the O2 bung is before the muffler. Is there not enough tailpipe (for a good reading at idle) to put it after the muffler? The reason I ask is that the O2 sensor will have a shorter life so close to the fire. The passenger's side exit exhaust is a go. ![]() I'm ordering materials on Monday to get started then it's off to Ben to make the jig. I plan to have the tailpipe exit 45* from parallel to the side.

john @ ssi runs the 02 in the Y of the 930 exhaust. He uses a wide band NTK o2 and has logged hundreds of hours on his dyno with it. when he dismantled the dyno and sold it a few years ago. he sold the 02 setup(controler also) to a 930 guy. And he still runs it today. He expresses that you only get true readings prior to the turbo Close to the flame tip.. and everything else is just an interpertaion of that reading if you mount after the turbo.. I thought very interesting info so I thought I would share.. He also states that the factory also measures there as well..

I always read that when locating a wide-band that approximately 6" (or there abouts) from the turbo exhaust exit was ideal...before the muffler.
