You might try FabCar Engineering. I know of one racer here in Wisconsin that had half shaft and axle stub(the next weak link) issues. They were able to provide solutions to the problem.

I've heard that stock 930 axles are used as the "strongest" on most off-road applications, dune buggies and such. Something to think about, nonetheless.

Patrick Motorsports stated the carrera items they sold me with a G50 were fine for at least my 500hp but not sure how high.

On some of my customers big power Ultima GTR builds and RCR GT40 kit cars I've been using these CV's:
http://www.vwparts.net/MB98-5096-B.html Lightened chromoly 934 variants. Coupled those with GKN gun drilled chromoly tubular axle shafts. Those cars are in the 6-800hp range on a regular basis running chevy/ford v8's through G50's or G96's and running big 300+ series tire width in back too. No issues there, we're breaking gearboxes before breaking halfshafts or CV's ![]()

934 has different bolt circle – someone told me we could get 31 splines axles and use 930 CVīs (modified)
What I am looking for is some facts about the strength, and axle that will twist under load to take some shock of the gearbox. Let me know if you can help me out here ! Thanks Jon |

GKN does offer a variety of gun drilled tubular halfshafts in various lengths, diameters, and spline configurations. they will also make halfshaft per your specifications that will fit the 930 CV. the 930 CV's are VERY strong. The only time I really ever see them break is under extreme and repeated shock abuse like on the crazy 700hp sand rails.

That's a nice car.
Frankly, I sincerely doubt you'll have problems with OEM axles with that sort of power unless you're into drag-racing with drag-slicks on prepped surface. Axles only feel actual wheel-torque and you are most likely never to develop enough torque to snap them while racing. With other words, only time you'll get near chance of snapping them is in the 1:st gear, axle-hopping.

Once the car is moving along a track it's highly unlikely you'll ever subject a failure that not extreme wear related.

This car will not be used for drag racing, but I want to be able to test how quick it is.
Before modification it ran 11,63 sec on ž - and I was only able to test it twice because I broke axle. This time it was on lowest boost and computer setting and on 95 octane fuel. (1 bar pressure) and the car was at that time 1.220 kg. We have made the car lighter all body parts out of carbon fiber plexi glass no stereo no sunroof - . Our engine is more powerful now (was 594hp to the rear wheel on 117 octane fuel and 1,7 bar) but the car is lighter. (That will help our axles :-) ) Have in mind you can ruin the gearbox or even break some part of the engine if you snap an axle!! |

The driveshaft shop quoted me around 2700 for axles in my 1991 964 turbo.

![]() There are special drag-racing axles made from spring-steel. They can twist a quarter of turn before snapping. Maybe you should have set of these made if you fancy drag-racing.
