EFI air temp sensor failure question
Hi
I was looking at my logging to check my A/F and I noticed that my air temp readings went from 0 degs C (ambient) to 245 C and back to 0. I am wondering how air temp sensors fail. It could be a wiring problem also or that the ECU is messed up I guess. I am not sure the ECU is seeing the problem cause my air temp failure mode is something like 33 degs. Maybe it isn't a bad air temp sensor. Anybody have any idea what a wiring failure would look like in my logs? Thank you Dean

I had my air temp sensor fail once in an open condition (broken wire) and that caused the megasquirt to think the temp was -40C. I am not sure how helpful this is, but I would check the wiring by unplugging the sensor and wiggling the wire around to see if the two wires are shoring together causing the high temperature signal. I bit of a shot in the dark, but it is free to try ;-).

Hey Dean,
I thought the oil temp sensor had failed on mine a while back. Turned out to be a little corrosion on the plug. It was not obvious, just a little greenish tint on the blades. I cleaned it and a few months later I got the problem again. Then I put some diaelectric grease on the connection and have not had a problem since.

Not much to report. I did drive my car and the log shows that the air temp sensor is working correctly so far. When I unplugged the sensor, the temp goes to the failure setting. I didn't see any corrosion on the plug.
Thanks again
