whipple supercharged CIS

Recently purchased a Supercharger of Knoxville whipple supercharger set up for an SC. I had previously removed the CIS unit from my 82 SC and replaced it with a set of webers. I still have the 82 CIS, but I would like to upgrade the CIS before I install the whipple unit. What would be considered the best CIS unit to purchased that would compliment the whipple supercharger in a stock 82 SC with 59,000 miles. Also, I would like to intercool the unit at the same time. Any suggestions. This is not a track car and never will be. I drove a stock SC several years ago which was equipped with a Paxton supercharger and the seat of the pants power felt great. The owner of the car told me at that time that the only thing he was told was to be careful when shifting. No power shifts allowed.

Anyone have an installation manual or a copy available for the whipple unit.

The 78/9 CIS has larger runners and would be an advantage.
You can run about 0.6bar max with the SC C/R if memory serves.

I'm doing a similar project and starting with a PLX AFR gauge. Once I'm confident that I know how to enrich my CIS then I will bolt on the BAE turbo kit with a .3 bar spring. If I can keep the mixture right I may add a little more boost.

While researching for this project over the past few years I've heard of electronically enhanced WURs that may be a consideration. Let us know what you find.

I'm on a similar project. Have a 79 with CIS and an doing a SOK whipple supercharger, as I finish rebuilding the engine from two broken head studs. As Brian says, the 78/79 have the larger intake runners.

As far as the manual, I asked several months ago on this board if anyone had one but did not get any responses. I did find someone who had a manual for a whipple on a 3.2 but it is different to do this on a 3.2 than a 3.0. I do have a manual for installing a Paxton, but again, it's different to do the one from the other. I am still sorting out some questions on how to pipe all of the ancillary systems but there are some good links related to that.

JohnJL is working on a supercharged system in Australia.

I'll try to post some of the work as I get to it.

John

The individual I purchased the unit off did not have the manual, but did make a very rough drawing of everything as it was installed on his sc. I have made some copies and your welcome to what I have. Seems we are working on similiar Porsche's as mine is a 82 all steel slant nose wide body cab conversion also.
I saw some pictures of a orange early model 911 with a supercharger out of Australia which looks great. From what I read it was extremely fast.
Thanks,
Frank

Yes, the runners have a larger ID so the box does as well.

Does this also involve the size of the port on the cylinder head? Will the 78-79 runners work with the 82 head? Seems like I stuck using 80 - 83 parts which have the lower compression, which is probably good for a supercharger.

Here is the only picture I have of a fellow PCA member's SC from years ago.
Maybe you can see something that helps you out.

Thanks RarlyL8,
I've looked at that picture hundreds of times. It keeps up my enthusiasm. What I don't understand is the only electrical connection is a shut off switch for the A/C compressor when under boost. I felt there shoud be something to increase fuel pressure at some point.

The increase in fuel is needed for the 3.2 kit but not for the 3.0 SOK kit. Did they tell you how much boost to expect? Can you post some pictures of your parts? I want to compare it with mine. Does your kit have a serpentine pulley?

Some of my pics are here:

Rebuilding and Supercharging 3.0L

Pics from others (and some from me) are here:

New to Porsche Need help supercharging my 3.0

I was looking to this thread as I thought about how to pipe the CIS ancillary stuff:

911SC Turbo

Also, thanks for the offer on the diagram, post it or send it to me via PM.

lost USB ports on computer about three weeks ago. Cannot use digital camera at this time to download any pictures. Don't have time to make repairs.

USB ports are now working. Had good daughter show dear old Dad how to repair USB port functions. Took pictures of supercharger parts and rough instructions. Only item missing from picture is crank puley and coil bracket.
