what is the largest size that will fit?
![]() ![]() These are the wheels. Its has currently 245 size rears and when they go I would like to upgrade the size to the widest that will fit without rubbing/clearance problems. Its a 1984 930 with no suspension mods. someone told me I could go as wide as 305s but not sure if true. Id be happy with 285 or so, Anyone know? Thanks

Tire width is predicated by rim width and offset. How wide are your wheels? It appears as if your 245s are almost maxed out on those rims so you might be able to go 255 and that is about it. To run a 285 you would need at least a 9.5" rim and a 305 would need a 10.5" rim.

thank you. I guess theres no way to do it unless I get new wheels.......Yes the 245s are just barely beyond the rims lip.........

there is no way to tell unless you give us the wheel size...

Exactly! To do so, measure from the innermost edge of the rim to the outer edge and subtract roughly 1" to give you the wheel width. Another thing to take into consideration is the relative scarcity of proper tire sizes in 16". On my turbo, I moved to 17" rims and may go to 18" later.

Not exactly what you asked, but you can go as wide as 315 or 335 under the rear flares, with the proper wheels. As you don't know the width of your wheels, we can't tell you how wide you can go with tires on your current set. I don't know, offhand, what the widest tires available are in 16" sizing (though someone makes a 265 that will fit on stock 9" wide wheels), but in my recent search for tires on 17" wheels, your two choices are either 275 or 315. No 285/295/305 sizing available.

You'll have to spring for wheels that are about 11 or 11.5" wide.
Again, rim width is measured from the INSIDE of one rim wall to the INSIDE of the other. So it'll be difficult to do it exactly unless the tire is off. But you can estimate it (it'll be in some dimension of inches, measured by the inch or half-inch) by measuring from the outside of each rim wall (as that's what will be available with the tire mounted) and subtracting an inch or half an inch.

you can surely go with 315 rear and 275 up front on a 930; all depending on the proper wheels backspacing.

One option is to move your rear wheels and tires to the front (if the offset works) then you have less to buy.
I run 255/315 on both 17" and 18" wheels. Be mindful of the tire brands as they are not the same width. Track oriented tires tend to be wider than pure street tires.

I purchased a new set of Fikse's. Told them I wanted to go with the largest tires on a stock turbo. They set me up with 295/30/18 rear and 255/35/18 front all work well.

thank you.
measured and comes out to short of 10" in rears and short of 9.5" in front. Thats having not been able to go in a straight line due to rim not being flat end to end. So I guess I have 9.5" rears and 9" fronts??

I don't think you can fit a 275 on the fronts without any rubbing. My 930 had 275 on the front (with 10" x 17 wheels). Even with rolled front fenders the front tires rubbed on both fenders and wheel wells. I went down to narrower fronts (245 wide preferred 255 but no tire sizes for the brand matching the 315 rears).

Have you considered changing out the wheel halfs for a stepped 17" wheel halfs? I would do this if I were you. I would go with 10" rears and 8" fronts or 11" rears and 9" fronts (if you want to go with 315 & 255 tires).

355rear and 255 front would be great! I didnt know I could change the wheel halves and increase the diameter?.....

You can't get wheel halves for those because they are not 3 or 2 piece wheels.
Those are cheap one piece cast aluminum wheels made to look something like the RH 3.6 speedline copy 3 piece wheels. You see your wheels on ebay sometimes. Widest 16" street tire you can get for those is the Kumho Ecsta in 265/45x16. 265/45-16 Kumho Tires |

I'm with you, 255/315 will definitely not rub at all. When I ran the 275s up front I had minor rubbing when maxin the steering wheel to either side - like when parking - but I have stiffer TBs and sways. I also felt the 275s induced oversteering. Nowadays I'm running 17x255/315.
