cam broke during install
How is this even possible? I was not even near the 110 ft lbs while tightening the nut and then it started getting loose again and then...

Sorry to see that, i guess one bonus is that it didn't happen with the engine running!

It was an SC profile from web cams. It was in the engine for years and then I sent it to web cams to get reconditioned and I was installing it again. They said they have never heard of this happening.
I had the torque wrench set for 110 but I am guessing I had about 75 on it at the time it broke. Yeah I guess it is better it broke now instead of later. So I will be getting a new SC cam from them. I will need to pay the core charge since I don't have a good cam to send them now. Does anyone have a SC cam good or bad I can send them for a core? |

That's scary! I'd think about replacing both of them to be safe.

Send both cams out and have them machined for the later style bolt?

It's possible it was overtightened by someone before you got the car and was tweaked.. and then let go on you.
Looks like black sand on the inside.. |

Wow - I wouldn't do anything with those. Looks like new cams for you. Thank your lucky stars that happened now and not on the street. Think thousands of $$ repair....

First time I have heard of one breaking like that. I had the old style but changed to the later style with my current build. The later style has some challenges to getting the cams timed with a high lift cam though. Here is the thread on the topic

I actually had a cam break in the same fashion, was not too concerned regarding machining to the later style. Those cams ( the ones with modified nose) are still in use, and I'm not losing sleep over them
Figured after numerous installs and uncertain history of the cam a break from the root of the thread might possibly happen... Timing the cams is always a sort of zen like experience..... I'm posting from Huangshan, China so I figured I could say something like that ![]()
