Where is the idle adjustment screw?

I did some searching here, but didn't find the answer. When I bought the car, the timing was set at 15 deg BTDC. I've since put the timing closer to where it belongs, 24 deg. BTDC. And now it idles high. My car is an '87, if that matters. Thanks

You may have to tighten it 'all the way' to get the idle you want... make sure you're adjusting it when the car is fully warmed up...

I hope you mean at 4000 rpm's. I don't think you can get anywhere near that at idle even if you wanted to (mine's at 12 btdc @ idle...intentionally) and I had to elongate the groove in the distrubutor to allow it to rotate far enough for that level of timing.

Prior to adjusting the idle, it's advised to do at least 15 minutes of stretching exercises so as to limber up the arm that has to contort back behind and inbetween stuff in order to reach the screw (that's if you don't have a really long screwdriver). What I eventually did last time I had the engine out was to connect a long shaft directly to the adjustment screw; said shaft now sticks out to the left of the IC and I can easily turn and adjust the idle in about 2 seconds.

i took the idle speed screw out and brazed a washer into the slot. then sanded it and painted it black.
with the longneck garretson and the deceleration valve vented to atmosphere in that area the washer makes reaching the idle bypass screw easier.

Yeah, that's at 4000 rpm with the boost and vac lines undone and plugged. I found the idle screw and got the idle down to around 900 rpm, instead of the 1100 it was idling at. Thanks everyone
