setting initial timing on 79 930 dizzy

I am interested in setting the initial timing on my 1979 930 dizzy before breaking in my cams after a full rebuild.
I have positioned the pistons for number 1 cylinder at TDC and installed the Dizzy with the leading edge of the rotor tip just starting to sweep past the small notch on the distributor housing surface. This should get me close to when the number 1 plug fires, but I wanted to be more accurate before starting the car and breaking in my cams.
I wont have time to really time the ignition with a timing light until after the break in as your supposed to run the engine at 2000rpm for 20 minutes ASAP upon startup.
Is there a way of setting static timing without starting the engine so that I am sure to be around 0 degrees advanced or so (Z1 mark) for the break in.
Looking for someone to describe the procedure with the stock CDI ignition.

Sounds to me that you are going to get it as close as you can initially, but i would certainly have the timing light in hand at start- up. To check the initial timing takes no time at at all. If you have the distrubutor set correctly and everything else is a go, then it should fire right up, point the light, make any adjustments, then do your run in. ( I dont remember, does a 1979 dizzy turn counter clockwise? In case it does, make sure you have your plug wires in the correct order)

I had my distributor a tooth off at start up and I couldn't get enough advance to run properly. It took me a couple of trys. You'll know right away whether its correct or not. Besides the timing, you'll want to be looking for other things such as potential fuel and oil leaks. Good luck.

I know I am gonna be close but I still could be several degrees off and I did not want to run the car for 20 minutes at too advanced or retarded a timing setting.
I thought there might be a procedure to set it using the timing light or something without actually running the car just to get it as close as possible before firing it up.
I dont want to be running at a low idle setting even for a few minutes while I try to adjust the dizzy and lock down the nut. I would rather get it right up to 2000 rpm and let it run.
