Love everything about this build. Well done
|
IMHO, Love the build, stance, wheels, body, tail...color leaves James Dean out of the picture.
He had very subtle taste, that blue has a KAHPOWW!!!! factor. Which the car deserves :) |
Wow
Very nice! Just realized this is the car of the McQueen build thread I subscribed to in 2011. Here are some pics I took at Werks

REALLY nice build! I like those wheels and would like to find out more about them.

Love. Love . Love.
That car is so right on so many levels. Fantastic built, Tate! I'm digging the genuine Turbo Cup intercooler. :-) |
Thanks Chris. I am getting ready to run the car over to you in Arizona for some final fuel tuning.
|
Nice -- looking forward to it.
|
Will you be driving it yo AZ or shipping?
In other words, are you back on the west coast? I owe you dinner. :) |
The C2 Turbo is now at TurboKraft for some final fuel system tuning. I assume that Chis will post a few pics and possibly some video on the Dyno. The baseline numbers before tuning were somewhat staggering.......... I will let Chris elaborate. Thanks, Tate

Time for EFI?
|
Great looking car. The pictures compel me to shave off the rain gutters on my car. At least wash it bare minimum

The combination of driver+car+engine was a winner, with a time of 11:53.480 -- and that's when the course was still unpaved! (Side note: a few weeks ago we got to meet the driver and see the car. It has hands-down *the best* back story I've ever heard, a real overcoming-the-odds tale of qualifying and going on to win. I'll let the owner re-tell.) The engine is now fitted with a much more drivable Garrett GT35R ball bearing turbocharger plus a streetable muffler, and the CIS needs to be re-adjusted to cope with the denser air of lower elevations. With only the most mild initial tuning, she's still generating huge numbers, and long before a normal redline. Looking forward to see what she can do! :-) |
Well. I am flying out to Phoenix in the morning to pick the car up and attend all of the auctions. I plan to run it against the new 918 one day as a friend will have his there for the week.... Chris may have some final dyno numbers after his final fuel tuning. I will let him share them. Thanks, Tate

Fantastic built... I love the car... so smooth... but there is something about the rear wheels size/offset/alignment with fronts that somehow looks off... may the camera lense/angle, may be in person is not the case. Congrats!!!

Miguel, i see what you are saying. However, Tate stopped by my house when he was in Monterey for the car week.
There is absolutely nothing off on this car. It looks absolutely amazing. And, it was almost able to keep up with my carrera 3.0 going over Laureles Grade ;) |
^^^ Prrrrrreeeettycool!!!
|
Holy tits, those wheels and ducktail and interior are fantastic!! So, those are legit center lockers? I want, badly, but am worried a center lock conversion would be all the money in the bank.
|
Yes they are real centerlocks. I had them made. Just finished the final fuel tuning on this pikes peak turbo motor. Came in at a healthy 560hp at the flywheel. We also were able to weigh the car. Came in at 2780lbs. Had a run with a 918 this morning. Was able to keep up.... For a while. T

Outstanding results. Are you at liberty to divulge the secrets which allowed that kind of power on CIS or is it secret sauce kind of stuff?
|
There is no real "secret sauce" with these CIS engines. This is a factory Turbo competition Pikes Peak engine built for Jeff Zwart to run pikes peak in 1994. The CIS head was modified to run more fuel. We tore the engine down and did extensive modification to the case and the crank as one would do to a high rev N/A engine. We also shuffle pinned the case. All engine internals were balanced and blueprinted. The engine is running a factory Competition S2 intercooler and factory headers. It had a 962 turbo when I got the motor. We installed a modern Garrett Gt35 Turbo. The boost comes on Very early and the engine runs out of fuel around 5500rpm. We installed a rev limited as a safety precaution. We could have gotten much more HP with EFI but I wanted it to be somewhat similar to its Original Pikes Peak configuration. Hope this helps. Thanks, Tate

The Blue 965 is headed back to the east coast after 8 months on the west. I will have it down at Amelia Island in a few weeks for the Concours weekend. Let me know if any of you 930 guys will be down in Amelia Island. Tate

This thing is a beauty. Great wheel choice and overall build. Drop it off in Cleveland ;
